IMHO it was to cover up gun running by the administration. Its the only scenario that seems to make sense.

Is it not treasonous for an already unauthorized person to assume the presidency whether fairly elected or not? And if otherwise treasonous acts are also committed then all actionable intelligence should be preserved as evidence, however underwhelming.
