I wouldn’t be opposed to that, can we also call it a probationary wage for those older than 18 just entering or re-entering the workforce after extended periods of not working??

Yep, a perfectly reasonable idea.....which has absolutely no chance of ever happening.

The problem is that employers would use that to string people along while transferring few to none towards conventional employment. People that are competent at their job would end up being declared just below the bar that converts them to permanent employees. You would end up creating another group of indentured servants.

Evidence of that can be found with the Georgia’s job tryout program and the UK’s implementation of a similar program. In addition, the H1-b skilled guest worker program also proves the same point(not many become citizens). In all cases, you would be creating another problem; it might even cause people to not want to pursue work for being treated with contempt.

What happened to the idea of business and their workers working together instead of using the government to get at each other’s throats?
