Companies to AVOID:
Companies AGAINST “Christmas”
Banana Republic
Barnes & Noble
Family Dollar
Foot Locker
Gap Stores
L.L. Bean
Limited Brands
Maurice’s
Office Depot
Old Navy
Radio Shack
Staples
Supervalu
Victoria’s Secret
JC Penney?????!!!!!
I am so sick of this.
There are multiple holidays and the use of the phrase “Happy Holidays” is not necessarily anti-Christmas. On this particular issue I part company with the AFA. I think their stance on this issue is divisive and makes Christians look petty and ignorant.
Hannukah is a legitimate holiday that involves the giving of gifts too.
This Christian has no problem with “Happy Holidays”.
I demand that people wish me “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays” while I’m busy wasting money subverting the true meaning of the holiday!!! (/sarc)
How about a list of those involved in the war on Thanksgiving. You would think that retailers could pause for a mere 24 hours each year to allow us to be thankful for what we have before we set out to accumulate more.
The balance of my existing Banana store card was $00.00. Clerk asked me if I wanted it reactivated(?). I said sure and, voila, a Visa card showed up in the mail a few weeks later. They cancelled the card but are still billing me for late charges over the purchases I made that day.
Most of their stuff sucks anyway.
At the moment, I’m more annoyed with companies that do harm to Thanksgiving by polluting a Christian holiday with greedy ads and sales.
These lists always get murky because there are plenty of stores on the “pro Christmas” list that are still “off limits” to Freepers due to politics, Costco for example.
I still say no to JC Penney.
Scrooge Alert: Boycott Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic this Christmas
November 19, 2012
Dear Friend,
AFA is calling for a limited two-month boycott of Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic, the three stores owned by San Francisco-based Gap Inc., over the company’s censorship of the word “Christmas.”
For years, the Gap companies have refused to use the word Christmas on their websites, in television commercials, newspaper ads and in-store promotions, despite tens of thousands of consumer requests to recognize Christmas and in spite of repeated requests from AFA to do the same.
Need proof? Go to www.gap.com or www.oldnavy.com and type “Christmas” in the search bar. As of today, the websites bring up zero results. In fact, Old Navy’s site gives an error message.
You’ll find “holiday” picks, “holiday” wonderland, “holiday” anthem and a “holiday” gift guide, but you won’t find “Christmas.”
Gap and Old Navy are censoring the word Christmas, pure and simple. Yet the company wants all the people who celebrate Christmas to do their shopping at their stores. Until Gap proves it recognizes Christmas by using it in their newspaper, radio and television advertising or in-store signage, the boycott will be promoted.
In the past AFA has played a part in convincing other retailers to change their approach. But at Gap and Old Navy, it’s “Bah, Humbug!”
