Yes, that's what happens when Kamikaze Conservatives vote for a third party or sit home when the Republican candidate isn't "conservative" enough for them. We have probably seen our last Republican or "conservative" president because of this juvenile tactic.

Juvenile? Maybe it was the Establishment’s continued slaps in the face. The only concession they made was to nominate Ryan and of course the platform. The impression that Romney made was that of a man who did not really believe in the more conservative positions he was advocating, and of course his whole pitch toward the end was that he could work with Democrats. That had George H.W. Bush written all over it. The Democrats just pushed the same message, that he did not believe what he was saying. It worked because it was true.
