Petraeus, Allen et al. have not done a particularly impressive job in Afghanistan. The Taliban have not gained much of a victory here - too many conservatives view these guys the same way Broadwell did. Afghanistan is not Iraq.

In addition, I am wondering if they are overrated as leaders, period. Petraeus did agree to serve at the CIA under Obama, so effectively despite his apparent competence he is a cog in Obama’s machine.
As far as Afghanistan is concerned, I am finally coming around to the view that perhaps little can be done to salvage the situation there and to conserve our soldiers’ well-being we should pull them out. In the event Al-Qaeda restarts serious operations there I suppose we would need to “nuke them from orbit” as opposed to investing ground troops.
