I hate that abercrombie store with its blaring “music” and its bags with nekked heathens on them.

Back in the 1980s it was a tasteful store that sold sportswear -- sort of a cross between Orvis and Brooks Brothers.

Back in the 1980s [Abercrombie & Fitch] was a tasteful store that sold sportswear -- sort of a cross between Orvis and Brooks Brothers.

I heard or read that later on, they became so focussed on, well, young, rich heathens that anyone who was too old or too fat was politely asked to leave the store, presumably because they'd scare away the young and fashionable.

Even department stores do that today, by refusing to stock certain sizes. "Oh, I'm sorry, sir, that would be size portly, which we only handle through our catalog operation. If you'll go to our Catalog Sales counter, you can order that item through our catalog." (The same as, "We don't serve colored at the front counter -- go around to the back door, though, and someone will fix you a plate [carryout] back there.")
