When asked directly did you issue specific orders to save the Americans in Benghazi, POTUS says “first thing I said was do everything possible to save them, just as we would whenever civilians or military personnel are in danger”
On follow-up he seemed to leave it that there was no “special” order in this case.
I think he just affirmed that he gave no special cross-border authority to rescue these Americans. He left it to normal status, no special rescue. The special forces on the tarmac in Sigonella had to stand down as a result.
