12.7 million background checks during all of 2012
What a beautiful statistic, that must scare the administration sh@tless! More guns sold to citizens in only one year than in the hands of the entire federal government, and that's not even counting the other 235 years the country has been in existence.

Gun sales are up in the wake of Barack Obama’s re-election on Tuesday, driven by fears of tighter regulations under a Democratic president, especially for firearms that might be classified as assault weapons.
But gun ownership is down
. Right
. If you believe that anyone want to buy a bridge?
I imagine that a lot of people are going to sell their guns if theyre likely to be banned they wont want to lose money on the deal.
Word has it a friend of a friend sold all of his guns the other day for this reason it was some guy name Art Vandalay or something for cash with an ad he stuck up on a bulletin board.

I’ve never owned one. What would be a good starter handgun?

Does a background check mean that it is registered that you actually have the gun ?

Others may have more thoughts, but I just bought my first (besides a shotgun): a Smith and Wesson 38 revolver. Revolvers are simple, don’t jam, and in general are very easy to use. A 38 has plenty of stopping power and it’s 5 round capacity is plenty for most situations.
I have shot it at the range a couple of times and I really like it.

No perfect answer, but I'm partial to the Ruger .22 auto. Just passed my first one bought for $37 in paper route money down to my stepdaughter. Can't break one or wear it out.

Does a background check mean that it is registered that you actually have the gun ? If it didn't before, you can bet it does now.

I bought my first weapon today - a Ruger 380.....I asked the clerk if gun sales had gone up since last Tuesday and he replied “you’d better believe it”......
