on the plus side: Kerry would have to vacate his senate seat.
Chances are, Sec of Def is a huge step down from Senate Aristocracy, so I would expect that he would not “report for duty”.
Sec of Def would force him into the spotlight and to be on the receiving end of congressional inquiries. Something he hasn’t done since he testified against real heroes.
His words then were of no consequence to his personal ambitions.
No - Kerry is a coward through and through. He’s long in the tooth as well as long in face.
When you are a Dem Senator it is best to retire or leave office as a Senator, unless you become Portus or Veep.
As did Byrd and Ted Kennedy.
I’m sure the rumor of consideration is the talk of the town, but every past-due dem senator in DC knows the position is beneath them.
RE: on the plus side: Kerry would have to vacate his senate seat.
You can be sure that whoever replaces him will be just as liberal or worse than he is ( at least he served in Vietnam — as he often reminds us ).
To be filled by the likes of Barney Frank, another drug and alcohol addled Kennedy, or Obama's good buddy Deval Patrick. Rest assured, Deval Patrick will have a cushy federal position to showcase his civil rights expertise before this all shakes out.
Until Obama was re-elected, if someone had said John F'ing Kerry was considered for Secretary of Defense, I would have laughed it off as a lame joke.
More Obama spit in the eyes of honorable men and women.
