"Which one of them invented the vacuum cleaner?" Neither one, actually. It was Lucille Hoover of Norfolk, VA back in the twenties who made a large sum of money selling vacuum cleaners to military personnel. Only after hearing of the method of operation Lucille used did someone patent a machine with similar capabilities.
