I used to stand and look over into East Germany with my eyeglasses and see what life was all about. They were in rags. Dirt poor. Using tractors from the 1930s to plow their fields or using HORSES!!! They were in abject poverty.I was there as well, before the wall came down. Going through Checkpoint Charlie was like stepping onto a different planet. Grim, dreary, miserable place. Why do people never learn from history?

Same here. There's no difference now between American's urban centers and East Berlin, except the inhabitants in one are unwilling to live free, while inhabitants of the other willingly risked their lives to live free in the West.
