A Seventeen Year Old's response to the election
The band of Patriots ^ | 11/07/12 | Austin Paul

Posted on 11/08/2012 3:18:46 PM PST by AustinPaul19

It’s final. We lost. Over the last eighteen months, we have fought the good fight and we have done our best to spread the message of smaller government and fiscal sanity.

We did not lose this election to President Tee Time. We lost this election to a class of politically ignorant Americans. This is the group of people that pays little, if any, attention to politics until the first debate or even later. These are the people that get their news from the likes of Brian Williams, Matt Lauer, and Jon Stewart. The people that waste their time watching E! and Dancing With the Stars. These people simply do not care enough about the future of this country to wake up and pay attention to what is going on around them. They vote based on a combination of “White Man’s Burden” and worthless social issues that will never change.

You write and think well. I’d bet you didn’t learn that in a public school. I admire your final comment that someone may be offended, get over it.

Welcome to FR.

“When it boils down to it, Americans just want to be left alone and allowed to control their own lives.”

You’d think that would be the case, but I have doubts..

Anyway, it’s always good to see another libertarian here. ;)

We can be the party of morality and acceptance. This is just simply telling people, “Hey I disagree with you on moral and religious grounds, but our country is facing bigger problems. Let’s fix it.”

How right you are!!! Too bad there aren’t more like you that feel this way. Let’s fix the country, then everything will fall into place. We can “big tent” most of the people on the social issues.
Great article and great thinking.

I am inspired by your patriotism for our country and for having the courage to stand up for it, particularly given the typical programmed liberal minds that are unknowingly being controlled and brainwashed by the MSM and the online social media who has reluctantly admitted to influencing everything from lifestyle choices to fashion to political beliefs.

Run for office and make us proud someday.

Dear AustinPaul: great essay, well advanced and supported. I have a 17 year old daughter who thinks much along the same lines, she was in tears when she heard the news yesterday morning.

Keep it up & thanks for sharing. It gives us hope for the future.

Dead balls on. Huge numbers of people take the left’s stereotype of Repubs and seek justification for it. Boom. A couple of candidates give loaded sound bytes to the left about rape and abortion and the decision is made. Then back to Dances with the Stars.

The left celebrating a President so dangerous and paranoid as to create social network tattle-tale sites like #Attackwatch and has the audacity to lie to the point of absurdity knowing that the complicit media will cover is almost funny.

We had people in our offices that had never heard about Benghazi.

During the Bush years, we all completely knew how each Gitmo prisoner was treated.

Media has power. They do not fear conservatives. They fear ObamaInc. They are afraid to ask questions or mock him.

Conservatives are civil. Almost too civil.

You are right about watching Dancing with the Stars. I have talked to three Obama voters today. One believed that military spending was 60% of federal spending and social programs 15%, one had never heard of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, and one hadn’t heard about how Obama has treated Netanyahu or the projection that Iran will have a nuclear warhead by next spring.

I think there may be buyers remorse for 2 of them - not that they could be persuaded before the election (because I tried). The nimrod with the statistics cannot be fooled by facts.

My prayer has been and is for God to bless, forgive, and help our nation, but I have come to believe His answer is no. As with Israel, He is merciful and patient, but also as with Israel, His judgement will not forever be avoided.

Hang onto your hats, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride until Jesus returns.

“We had people in our offices that had never heard about Benghazi.”

I ran into numerous people who “heard about it”, but didn’t know “what happened”. I’m not so civil or polite; I filled ‘em in, bigtime. They were floored.

well said.

You're 17?

Please ignore the folks telling you to run for office.

Seriously.

Get some real-world experience first.

Join the military. Or go to college and study something real. (Not "political science". Barf.) And then join the military. Or get a private sector civilian job doing something vaguely related to what you studied. Learn what it really means to accept responsibility, delegate responsibility, take orders, give orders, meet a deadline, stay under budget, deliver to a customer, make payroll ...

THEN ...

Run for office.

Whiz-kid theoreticians, who come out of "poli-sci" programs all full of themselves with fantastical ideas that have no grounding in reality are the death of this Great Republic.

Thanks for the advice. I do plan on joining the Marine Corps after college and I am thinking about a career in law or engineering. Then running for office.
