I won’t do these things, of course, but I’ve sure been dreaming about them a lot lately.

Why do you feel obligated to pass on the fruit of your labor to someone who expects a free lunch?

That's the really strange thing. All my kids have an outstanding work ethic and understand there is no free lunch. They've all worked jobs from age 13 or so. They are all getting good careers started in this horrible economy. They will take any job to get started and never complain about starting at the bottom. Daughter #1 is completely on her own with an excellent marketing position after finishing grad school last June. Daughter #2 graduated last June with her BS degree and is working 3, sometimes 4 jobs in the field she loves. We shove them out and they know they have to make their own way in the world.

The peer forces, forces of "educators," forces of media and entertainment are very powerful and have corrupted their critical thinking skills when it comes to society at large and how and why civilizations succeed or fail.

I'm still hopeful they will come round as they age and begin to really understand the world around them, especially as things continue to deteriorate. I know in my 20s I was ignorant of existential threats to our civilization and it wasn't until my 30s I really came around.

That's why I'm cutting them some slack.
