President Barack Obama faces a new urgent task now that he has a second term, working with a status-quo Congress to address an impending financial crisis that economists say could send the country back into recession.
"You made your voice heard," Obama said in his acceptance speech, signaling that he believes the bulk of the country is behind his policies. It's a sticking point for House Republicans, sure to balk at that.
The same voters who gave Obama four more years in office also elected a divided Congress, sticking with the dynamic that has made it so hard for the president to advance his agenda. Democrats retained control of the Senate; Republicans kept their House majority.

Deciding where to go on vacation?
Now that the election is over, they are suddenly talking about the “fiscal cliff”. Convenient.
Why should he care about the economy? He won, suckers.
lol.
Just a day before the election a higher unemployment rate was a good sign for Obama
Now its urgent! haha
Figure out how to take the rest of my income? (What little I have left, that is.)
There is widespread misconception regarding Obama and the majority of dem voters. They don’t understand economics and actually dislike thinking about economics. Economics are not high on their priority list and are a little unsavory to their way of thinking. Contrary to popular wisdom, dems are more interested in social issues, ethnic identification, and their other quirky beliefs. For typical dems, if it doesn’t hit them on the head, they won’t care about it. They don’t have a clue about the national debt, Greek-like American economic policies, the middle east, the relationship between military strength and peace, health care access, or anything not right in front of them.
I worked for years alongside the social justice progressives at a public institution and they spend a lot of time concocting wildly rediculous accusations to throw at successful Americans with one primary goal—to extract loot. That is the extent of their interest and understanding of economics—you have loot and they want it.
Maybe they are realizing they are running out of people to blame, besides Obama. Just discovered the first rule of holes?
Some dumbass left him one hell of a mess to clean up.
Ask Wilson, FDR, Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush how their second terms were.
...pitching iron or lob wedge?
The R’s should give him everything he wants. Last election, one could argue that the issues were blurred by racism, etc., but this election it was clear. All those east coast moderates voted him in. They are the ones with the most to lose. I am in a red state bordered by numerous other red states and am buffered by the effects of these policies for years. I voted for them, not me. I voted for country. The people I voted for voted for him.
If the R’s resist on anything, the Admin and MSM will peg the downfall of America on them. They need to get out of the way and let the people’s will prevail. Yes, I know this is not the for country argument, but ya know.....
You nailed it. They can see one inch in front of their nose, otherwise forget it.
The libs need to feel a grand economic twist in their shorts.
I agree with you.
I agree and I propose that the Congress pass a 75% income tax on anyone who directly or indirectly makes their income from the sales of tickets to the American public. This will primarily affect actors, professional athletes, and musicians. (Think Clooney, Pitt, Jay Z, Kanye, etc) The base of obama shouldn’t mind as they support higher taxes anyway.
Obama’s supporters will not let him do what is necessary to fix the economy.
I can’t wait for Obama v2.0 to blame Obama v1.0. He inherited a real mess.
The financial damage began years ago and there aren’t miracle cures. Fortuantely Obama has more flexibility now because he can afford to make his base mad at him. Whether he sees it that way is another question.
