Sequestration is a terrible, horrible, no good idea.
And we must let it happen.
You know what you call $1.2 trillion in budget cuts? A good start.
After last night it's clear that as presently constituted there is no electoral path to reducing the size and scope of government. Since we can not do that in an orderly and rationale way, we must use the tool we have at hand.
The lame duck will feature a lot of talk about "grand bargains". No Just no. While the GOP and conservatives were crushed last night, the GOP still retains control of the House so "the people" voted for more gridlock. Then gridlock they shall have. And that means enforcing the current law of the land....sequestration.
I'd much rather a messy, disorganized and painful set of cuts than an clean, orderly and disastrous set of tax and spending increases.
As someone once said, "never let a crisis go to waste bitches". At least I think that's what they said.
Oh and the debt ceiling needs to be raised again.
As a commenter pointed out: Let ALL the Bush tax cuts expire. All the people who were taken off the roles 10 years ago? Back on baby!
“Bailout”? We have NOTHING to bail out anybody.
No auto companies, no banks, no union pension funds, nothing. Large and small, the pain is going to be long, wide, deep, and continuous, as the entire country goes through being skinned alive.
And worst of all, it will be SLOW.
The dystopia that follows is going to seem to be an improvement. A new Dark Age is about to descend, much like what followed the collapse of the Roman Empire.
Israel, you are on your own, at least for now. That may very well be the one bright spot for the eventual revival of civilization
first of all, I apologize for calling you a troll.
So when we do our taxes in March, the new rates will be in them for this year, correct?
Shut ‘er down. Just do it. We are the party of smaller government, right?
Of course he will, just like he did during the last debt ceiling showdown.
My point precisely. It was a stupid move back then and not sequestering would be a stupid move now. We need to let it happen. We’re long overdue to “take our medicine” and it needs to happen before no medicine can cure us.
The poor have voted in their sugar daddy, so they can check in with Uncle Obama if they need something. I will not give one red cent ever again!!!!
Absolutely agree with all of the posters here. The Donks and the MSM will go spastic but the mid-terms are 2 years away. Plenty of time to let things die down.
Conservatives are stuck for four more years with Obama right? Well, the liberals are stuck with us for 2 more years with the House. A lot of things can happen in 730 days..
Time to fight fire with fire..
As far as I understand, starting in January 1, 2013, the tax rate cuts will expire, and income starting in 2013 will be taxed at the higher federal rates. So, tax rates for the 2012 tax year won't change.
Agreed 100%.
Yes, agreed, it is time to pull that lever.
That was more about presidential politics. It was the correct move politically at the time, but it failed, so now it’s on to a much more aggressive posture.
Boehner’s speakership is still fragile and he will do what his caucus demands. He may talk compromise for public consumption, but the game is significantly more serious today.
GOP has everything to gain in 2014 from a weakened economy; and this includes getting a bunch of GOP governors re-elected. Obama can own everything.
I agree. Obama owns everything from here on out, and he can no longer blame Bush. Let the tax cuts expire. Let military spending drop. Give the Afghanis over to their their desire to slaughter each other. Bring the troops home.
That is the bright side, all the games he played to have all the bad effects of his agenda hit in his second term have come home to roost.
He is going to be able to have the Democrats stew in it. We really need to hold the republican feet to the fire so they can’t allow them to escape the hole they dug for themselves.
I am a retired Dept. of Defense worker (I worked as a civilian for the Army.) A lot of my former coworkers are overjoyed about the election (based on what they’re saying on Facebook today.) Most only have a few years on the job. These fools don’t realize that yesterday they voted themselves out of a job.
remember how long it took for us to get passed the Carter legacy.. maybe about 12 years or so economically and his weaknesses are still haunting us in places like Iran and Venezuela.. We won’t be able to make it past Obama’s legacy. It will remain a stain on our nation for generations. Sequestration has to happen, IMO. VA needs to learn the lessons and lead the way forward into a more viable future. The pending collapse of the state will hurt. I hope the Obamabots in our state all burn in hell.
Do you all feel the pubs in the House will let this happen? I think the republicans will compromise(do what will help Obama most) on keeping the Bush tax cuts and in return they will keep voting to raise the debt ceiling and take the huge cuts in the military and raise taxes on the rich. That is exactly what the dems want, but the repubs will never see it coming. The problem here is the Obama voter’s need to start paying taxes. That is the best way we can help them. The money isn’t going to hold for the huge amount of the country on food stamps and there won’t be new jobs for anyone.
Obama doesn’t get to pass out big chunks of money to his cohorts much longer. I think we need to contact our congress critters and tell them this is what was voted for and now those same voter’s need to start paying taxes again. Don’t vote to raise the debt ceiling unless major cuts are made—not cuts in increases, but real cuts. Let all Obamacare taxes plus the loss of Bush tax cuts hit plus no earned income tax credit distribution of other’s money anymore. Give these people everything they voted for so that they might read and educate themselves before the next vote. O won’t stop spending, his voters won’t stop sucking on the government sow so let’s get it over with. Pubs will be scared of being blamed. So? They are anyway. Do they think the dems or media are going to love them for saving the dem’s behind? Make the dems give the voters what they promised. Pubs are the worst negotiators in the world. To keep the Bush tax cuts will only protect the dems. Let them show their voter’s how those cuts only helped the “rich”. My little protest will be to not do business with any blue state. They won’t get a penny from me to help their state. If I sound mean then so be it. I don’t want to support stupidity.
The Executive Branch has been sitting on a ton of RIF notifications. A lot of Virginia Feds are going to be sent home for good and soon. Idiots.
Best idea I’ve heard all day.
