Oh, stop, we’s just funnin’ ya. It was a good choice of quotation for this crucial, historic day.
To polling official:
“Yes ma’am, my wife, me and most of the country.
“We ran out of chewing gum, so we’re here to kick ..... “
more great lines!
May the heros of Benghazi be proud of how we vote today.
They gave their lives for us, now we need to give our votes for them.
Vote as if the lives of our Military Men and Women depended on it.
Yes, LOTR was J.R.R. Tolkien, but the faux St. Crispin’s Day speech with allusions to the Poetic Eddas from the movie should be attributed to the screenwriter for the movie Return of the King, not Tolkien himself, as Aragorn’s speech before the Black Gate occurs only in the movie version.
From the Poetic Edda:
Axe-time, sword-time, shields are sundered,
Wind-time, wolf-time, ere the world falls;
A good speech, but then most battle-inspiration speeches, whether in real life or in fiction, written in English since the late 1500’s by folks literate enough to know Shakespeare’s St. Crispin’s Day speech have been.
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won’t.”
- General George Patton Jr
“If you are going to win any battle, you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do... the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.”
-General George S. Patton
I wish someone would do as ‘Heroes Of Benghazi’ poster in that Shepherd Fairy style. Use their own iconography against them.
I’m a bit more pessimistic about the election so I’m thinking of Theoden’s speech: “Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain in the mountains, like wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West, behind the hills, into shadow. How did it come to this?”.
Please note spelling: Tolkien.

Oops! You are correct, of course.
Sorry if I offended you by my correction.
Of course, turns out I spelled Tolkien’s name wrong. :0 Poetic justice?
Anyway, thanks for posting these inspiring words.
Amen
...Aragorns speech before the Black Gate occurs only in the movie version.

Thank you. I did not realize that. It has been about 45 years, though, since I read the LOTR books.

Great idea! Ping me if you find that poster’s poster!
