The truth is the GOP is one state short STRUCTURALLY.
Even if Romney wins Ohio, he still has to win CO or Iowa.
The problem is, going forward, EVEN IF ROMNEY WINS TONIGHT...if the GOP can’t make WI work even with wins like Walker, and can’t make Ohio work (still to be seen) with Kasich winning....and the demographics changes taking away VA and Fl. 2016, 2020 look rough too.
More people vote in Presidential years, and those voters look to be more liberal. So we may be in for an Off year/ On year toggle switch for the next decade.
I also forsee a possible GOP shift Center, Dem shift left and possible a new 3rd conservative party with a base in the South and West. It will be decades, but eventually we will mirror Europe and have 3 parties of some sort...even if the 3rd doesn’t hold national office for a long time.
The problem is, like it or not, we are following European trends...just many years behind.
