We lost power for about 60 hours a couple of years ago as the result of an ice storm. Folks just to west of us lost power for weeks. 60 hours, even in winter is very doable, not a major problem, if you can get to a working gas station. We didn’t see any looting or lawlessness.

I recall crews came down from Quebec and their little red octagonal signs said “ARRÊT”, unlike in Paris, France, (also a French speaking city) where they say “STOP”.

We were out 88 hours August 29-September 1 this year in Isaac. That's new Orleans, late summer btw. Temperatures well into the 90s, with dewpoints to match. Never below 75F, even in the middle of the night. I would have loved to have traded my Isaac experience this year for three times the outage duration with temps in the 40s and 50s. Sounds like a vacation to me.

For the record, after Katrina my home was down for a month. These crybabies in the mid Atlantic have no freaking clue.
