(Reuters) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie defended his praise for President Barack Obama after superstorm Sandy, but said he would stick with his fellow Republicans and vote for Mitt Romney in Tuesday's election.
"I endorsed Mitt Romney 13 months ago because I thought he was the best guy for the job," Christie said on Sunday during a news conference, reaffirming his support for the Republican candidate.
But support for Romney does not mean that he cannot appreciate the "good job" that Obama did while responding to the historical storm that hit the U.S. Northeast last week, Christie said. Sandy knocked out power to some 2.4 million New Jersey residents.
Christie, a popular governor widely seen as a possible Republican presidential contender in 2016, had frustrated some in the Romney campaign who feared he had given what could be a critical boost to Obama, a Democrat.

Exactly! For the past 5 years Obama has been Katrina this and Katrina that and look at the mess NY and NJ is in.
“. . .his tell-you-what-he-think style. So, perhaps he was impressed at the speed of 0bamas team responding to the hurricane last week. . .”
One- He did not tell anyone what he thought - it was pure feeling
two- More from the first point; BO DID Nothing! Not one thing. His schedule that day looked like that of a substitute middle schoool teacher. He did absolutely nothing and if he did do something we are ready to hear wha tit was but the answer won’t come.
People know there are comparisons of this to Bush’s Katrina. We were critical of him not for not doing anything, because there is nothing for the president to do, but for not playing their game.
That gowes both ways. We are watching and comparing. No way would Bush get away with going there, making the gove schooze than doin gnothing and the next day fly off to VEGAS to party with jayzee.
Christie condoned and endorsed and approved and championed all of that so he is not going to be able to bounce back from it in any way that I can see.
Kiss off Chris. Your credibility is shot.
It didn't seen to change Kathleen Blanco's public opinion of George W Bush
Who’s the next conservative governor south of Tea Party Gov. LePage in Maine? I no longer consider Christie a friend to republicans.
What specifically did Obama do that was a “good job”?
"It would have been one thing if Obama had actually done a good job, but Christie knows thats not the case."
Christie is putting his credibility on the line. When FEMA is running out of water, etc., and the man who was so quick to heap praise on the president is now strangely quiet, it's going to raise a lot of doubt in people's minds about him.
Here’s my pledge, Governor Fat Jerk, I will never, ever vote for you, so help me God.
Amen!! Same here!
Kathleen Blanco was/is an idiot. But then Bronco should have stuck around for a few days to make certain that Federal resources are being delivered in the right places.
Now, I understand that the Federal Government can only do so much after a disaster. While Christie may have made an overly effusive statement at the moment because Bronco decided to look presidential for 20 minutes or so, he traded his “compliment” for what he perceived as needed resources. is Christie beholden to his state, or to his “party”. Obviously we see that he was beholden to his state.
If Christie made his comment a year ago, would the reaction be the same as it is now? I think not. It is the political season that puts “everything” under the microscope to fill the 24 hour news cycle.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I am not a Christie Fan Boy, hell, I don’t even live on the East Coast. I just think this is all much ado. After Romney wins on Tuesday, everyone can relax a bit and re-gain their breath before cleaning out the stench filled horse stalls of the Obama administration
Fat boy self destructed. Purge the RINO.
Little Chrisie’s nose is out of joint. He was SO CLOSE to being Romney’s VP -
Looks like we missed a bullet there. We don’t need fair weather friends. I’m thinking it was the Establishment oeratives that were pushing Christie - but Romeny went for a more solid man...
this bodes well. It indicates Romney will be his own man - and we know he can’t be bribed - he’s given away more money and worked for free for years (No salary as Gov., gave away 1.8 million salary that went with the 3 years saving the Olympics, worked 10+ years as Bishop of his church without salary (thats sandard), turning away millions. ..so he can’t be bought.

“My thinking is, just what is Christie supposed to do? He needs certain Federal resources and waivers.”
We the People do not bow to elected officials. Fema money is not BOs to hand out; Bush knew this, which is why he gave NO $ even though the gov’t officials there did the opposite of bowing to him. BO is not Mellon or Carnegie or even Trump. It is not his money and not his choice and when he takes it as such as he did to R Perry in Texas and pulled funding form the fires it is corruption.
“His state was just hit by a hurricane that communities there have no experience in dealing with, (unlike a state like Florida). The damage was dramatic.”
Ugh! It is half shoreline, not counting the islands and the Bays. Bay Head was overrun with 12 to 18 inches of water in homes from Barnegat Bay. And many have flood insurance. In any case, anyone there, especially the gov., who does NOT anticipate such an event is silly.
Florida does not own hurricaines, nor does Texas, La, SO Carolina.
Two of my New Yorker sisters are named after hurricaines which hit in the 50s and 60s.
Read up on the Hurricaine of 1938 which flooded Providence RI after ravaging LI.
"Too late, fatso. When the future of the free world is at stake, if you dont have something negative to say, dont say anything at all. There is a big picture here..."
What's done is done. I wasn't pleased about it... but at the same time, it's important to not let the media play us for fools with this "Obama is surging with independents because of Sandy" nonsense. If the country is really to the point where people will overlook four disastrous years, and vote for a president mostly because he visited a state for an hour and shook somebody's hand... then the country is lost. But I highly doubt that.
Besides, the Sandy situation is slowly turning into another debacle...
And what good work was that besides showing up for a photo-op?
LePage is everything everyone THOUGHT CC was - and more. I've been saying this for months. LePage is the real deal. And he's SOLID. He would not fall apart in a crisis. Nor would he kiss the devil's a - ah, rear - when things got tough.
You see Barack Obama. Chris Christie sees a Slim Jim with ears.
Chris told Barack, “Mr. President, my doctor put me on a low-fat diet. What’s your BMI?”
"Good job"? What did he do, exactly?? Walk around for a bit, fake a concerned expression, then hop a plane and hit Vegas? My friend and fellow Freeper in NJ wants to know where the gas is. I'm going to overnight her a gas can so she can slog around and try to find a couple of gallons. So tell me, Christie, just what "GOOD JOB" has Obama done? Or YOU, for that matter?
The Pre-emptive praise was stupid.
What good job did he do? He showed up for a photo-op and a Governor licked his toes.
Just for the record: I am not looking to the media for this one. I watched him live on camera during the end of the election of the future of our country gushing about this man who is in the middle of stonewalling about leaving the ambassador and his embassy team to be killed. Gushing about him for his role in the cleanup of the Hurricaine in which he has done nothing and was about to fly off to Vegas to party which he did and whic, if Bush had done the same he’d be attacked beyond recognition.
I cannot look at Christie, so you can be certain I am not allowing the media to inform me on this.
