That turned out not to be the case in my extended howling wilderness experience. More like 5 gallons a day. I suppose for 3 days, it might work, but not for much longer. Not if you are cooking and cleaning.

1 gallon is basically bare minimum. Hydration, brushing teeth, sponge bath every couple of days. Maybe a bit for cooking rice but not pasta. In colder weather you don’t need as much since you are not sweating out as much.
