A lot of these people DID prepare. The storm flooded areas miles further than the evacuation zones. Your lack of compassion for those who did prepare and whose houses were totally flooded out, or burned, or otherwise destroyed is what’s amazing.
Were there people up here who deserve what they got? Sure. But there were a lot of people -A LOT - who did what they should have, prepared, evacuated etc...and still lost everything.*

No carbon footprint, capitalism shut down, low calorie intake, everybody asking government for stuff..... NY-NJ has just become Utopia!!
