Vietor, who has spent nearly his entire career working for Barack Obama, replaced Mike Hammer as spokesman for the National Security Council during a White House staff shakeup in January 2011.

For two years before that, Vietor had served in the Obama White House as an assistant press secretary under former press secretary Robert Gibbs. He offered the media the Obama administration’s official views, whether it was about U.S. relief efforts in Haiti or the Pentagon’s succession policy.
