Space shuttle Enterprise suffers damage in ferocious storm

Space shuttle Enterprise, NASA's original prototype orbiter, is sitting exposed and appears to have been partially damaged by Hurricane Sandy after the severe storm passed over New York City on Monday night.

On public display aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, a converted aircraft carrier, since July, Enterprise had been protected from the elements inside a pressurized pavilion. Based on photos posted online, the inflatable structure appears to have first deflated and then been torn by the winds of the now post-tropical storm cyclone.

DITTOS! DITTOS! DITTOS!

Instead Houston got the fake shuttle. The FUTTLE!

Obama and company were asses for doing what they did to NASA just because JSC was in Texas.

Mark my words, Obama is going down in a LANDSLIDE! He has a “ferocious storm” coming at him!

My guess is that NY is not a Red state, unlike TX...

A aircraft designed to work in space was not designed to handle ocean salt or weather.
But hey, we are safe from drinking 20oz sodas.

I agree. Putting it on a carrier deck in a liberal hot spot doesn't make any sense.

An inflated tent? What a filthy joke! I’ll bet the NASA facility near Houston could provided something a little bit more substantial to house such a historic relic. Hey Schumer! Get stuffed!

Cali is a state of space cadets so that is understandable but Nyork???

Schmuck Schummer must have been a big Flash Gordan fan and plans on sitting and going vroom vroom zap zap in the shuttle's cockpit—the commie putz!

They could still be in service. They were retired well before the end of their service life.

Dang.

Putting that thing on the deck of a WWII carrier is the stupidest idea i’ve ever heard. Totally destroys the feel of a carier. It’s like a mustache on the Mona Lisa.

And giving it to the sewer of NYC instead of to the well deserved NASA collection in Houston is an outrage.

Gee, that’s a real shame.

Good thing it wasn’t given to the Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, where it would have been displayed in a place of honor in a new hangar that was being built especially for that purpose completely through donations. Dayton is, of course the home of the Wright Brothers and Wright-Patterson AFB.

And where viewing is FREE. All of the locations that were given shuttles, charge for viewing.

Two ended up on the East Coast, one on the west coast. We got none, same as Houston.

However, we have been given and it is already inside where it won’t be DAMAGED, the CCT, Crew Compartment Trainer, so that will be a wonderful FREE Hands-on display in a very short time.

Yes to what SusaninOhio says.

National Museum of the United States Air Force should of had a shuttle. If you're into aviation, this is the place for you.
