Hurricane Sandy From Space
NASA
Just in case you thought the Hurricane hype couldn't get any louder, check out this dispatch from Weather Channel meterologist Stu Ostro:
- History is being written as an extreme weather event continues to unfold, one which will occupy a place in the annals of weather history as one of the most extraordinary to have affected the United States.
- REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE OFFICIAL DESIGNATION IS NOW OR AT/AFTER LANDFALL -- HURRICANE (INCLUDING IF "ONLY" A CATEGORY ONE), TROPICAL STORM, POST-TROPICAL, EXTRATROPICAL, WHATEVER -- OR WHAT TYPE OF WARNINGS ARE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER -- PEOPLE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM NEED TO HEED THE THREAT IT POSES WITH UTMOST URGENCY...
- With Sandy having already brought severe impacts to the Caribbean Islands and a portion of the Bahamas, and severe erosion to some beaches on the east coast of Florida, it is now poised to strike the northeast United States with a combination of track, size, structure and strength that is unprecedented in the known historical record there...
- A meteorologically mind-boggling combination of ingredients is coming together:

Mmm hmmm... just like when they had to cancel the first day of the RNC- the NOAA was hundreds of miles off in their prediction. Not a mistake I am sure so I havd no doubt that NC Gov Bev Perdue’s wet dream will come true this time around.
Here in GA, we are having fierce winds and the trees are swaying and creaking and have been for the past 8 hrs with no end in sight. The power went off momentarily but cam back on.
Grrr...
a weatherman pointing at a map of Staten Island, and saying, Staten Island is virtually surrounded by water...
LOL!
The June 2012 North American derecho made many people harden in this kind of situation.
this is an attempt to get Benghazi out of the news. Why else would this Frankenstorm garner so much attention?
"If you live on the East Coast DO NOT take this storm lightly! Hurricane Sandy will deliver a devastating storm surge to low lying areas of the Mid-Atlantic. This is a storm of the likes that I have not seen in my lifetime."
Italics are MINE.
God is telling Obama and his thugs “ FU !! “
Oh, HELL yes! He was absolutely CRAZY to do what he did. I myself begged him not to do it, but as is typical of 14 year old boys...they don’t listen much to 13 year old girls.
I will say this about the ice (and I’m no expert on the properties of salt water ice): it was at least 8 inches thick about 100 yards out. In reality, Long Island Sound at that point isn’t very salty at all. Douglaston is at the westernmost edge of the Sound and has fresh water coming into it — for example, Little Neck Bay doesn’t smell like the ocean, though it IS salty if you drink the water from it.
Personally, I am terrified of falling into a hole in ice and getting trapped underneath it. I had nightmares for weeks after Jimmy’s stunt. The fact is, though...stupid as it was, we all still remember it all these years later. LOL...you should see Jimmy now, a veritable pillar of the community!
Regards,
PS: I’ve never seen the Bay freeze like that ever again. It truly was a brutally cold winter — I don’t remember one colder, before or since.
***** “I think obama will issue an EO allowing him to cast votes for people who can’t get out themselves.” *****
BawHAAAA BawHAAAA ....Hasn’t he been doing that all day long?
TT
Aww...we girls LOVED the middies! They were SO CUTE in their uniforms and watching them play rugby was...uhm...enlightening.
Regards,
That made me laugh!
I am saying and displaying those feelings on his behalf... I don’t think he is unloading on us to get his point across :)
No, I get it. And I remember it being very cold. I can’t remember whether our bay was frozen. I do remember one of the guys, who is now a pillar, going out onto the ice a few years earlier. It’s a great temptation, conquering the (Huntington) Bay like that.
**** “Our power lines are on phone poles which get whacked by falling trees etc.
You can get snarky after you live through it.” ****
There are a couple of solutions ... fix your Infrastructure (you know “Shovel Ready Jobs”) or MOVE.
I live on the Gulf Coast ... we deal with it (or move) we don’t cry.
TT
(bout as un-snarky as I could express myself)
I was hoping they would use him as the first experimental human flight to Mars, but the Martians would say ? WTH ? we are at war now baby..
Hey Stanne! We are neighbors now because after I married, I moved out here to Smithtown.
Let’s hope we don’t lose power, and if we do, that it won’t be gone for a week or more. YIKES!
Regards,
