The blogger who wrote this has made an irresponsible assumption that the planes were deployed over Benghazi that night. The Fox report doesn’t state that, nor do any other reports. The situation is bad enough without junk blogging like this being passed off as news.

I would assume this based on this line from the Fox article:

The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Spectre gunship...but then in that same paragraph - enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive.

It had been my understanding that no aircraft other than drones were in the air that night. If in fact gunships were circling above and called off, that just seems criminal.

sounds like these gunships were in Sigonella and their mission dating back to March had been to support the anti-Qadaffi militia

There is no indication they were capable or authorized to intervene in Libya without the consent of the Libyan govt (or NATO if they are NATO assets), against potential Libyan nationals rioting against one of our consulates (still a plausible explanation in the early hours of the fray/fog of war) to rescue a US Ambassador and CIA contract personnel

It would be great to know that Jack Ryan could get them re-tasked and over there in an hour but there can more bureaucracy than that in making up plan as you go along

Could strong leadership by a real POTUS like George Bush or Ronald Reagan have overcome this with some top level phone calls? Possibly yes.

So they denied any support to the people protecting the ambassador and did the Obozo admin even have the decency (albiet very littl) to at the very freeking least tell the people at the consulate that Help was not going to come so they could at least try to escape on their own or something...

Little known fact about radar equipped fighters: the radar can be used as an antipersonnel weapon. Fly low enough, train the emitter in the right direction and crank it up to full power and it’ll microwave the brains of anyone within a pretty decent sized swath. Especially for planes like F-15s that have very large and powerful emitters.

Combine that with the shockwave from a low level supersonic run ... Well there’d be four Americans still alive today.

• 2) The near inaction when the call for help came.

For weeks now I have thought that the denial of requests for security were a dereliction of duty. I consider the lies and misdirection about the "video" after the attack to be fraud and malfeasance under the color of authority. I don't consider the inaction during the attack to be any of those.

The failure to act during the attack is the direct equivalent of desertion IMO.
