This is a superior article in The American Conservative by an ex-CIA officer who lays out in stark terms the difficulties facing Israel if they were to go it alone and bomb Iran's nuclear infrastructure.
Basically, it comes down to geography, technology, and the cold calculations for success.
A couple of excerpts:

Let's assume that the Israelis opt for an attacking force of 50 fighters, one third of which would be designated for suppression of ground fire. The planes would be equipped with conformal fuel tanks built into the fuselages for extended range. They would also have auxiliary tanks that could be jettisoned when empty. Nevertheless, the attacking force would have to take off from Israeli airfields and then almost immediately refuel either over Israel or above the Mediterranean because fighters burn considerable fuel in getting off the ground. Refueling from Israel's twelve modified Boeing 707 and C-130 tankers would take some time even though a plane using a flying boom for refueling can top up in thirty seconds. It is the maneuvering and connecting to enable the refueling that takes considerably longer. Refueling all 50 planes will be a major task essential to the success of the mission and while the planes are in the air and forming up they will be detected by radar in Egypt and Lebanon, information that one must assume is likely to be shared with Iran.

There are three possible routes to Iran. One route to the south violates Saudi airspace and it is by no means certain that the very capable 80 plus F-15s of the Saudi Air Force would not scramble to intercept. The other is to the north over Syria, skirting the Turkish border.

READ the Holy Bible(KJV), a Rightous Isreal ALWAYS WINS!
Israel has been in control of it’s own destiny for about 3-400 years in it’s entire history. The rest of the time it’s been in exile, dominated by other empires, cast around the world and/or suffered pogroms and the holocaust. They may well win in the end but they’ve not had that happy a ride for a people that have been going for 3,000 years.
Define “Righteous Israel”.
It is foolish to go to war without preparing for it, hoping the heavens to compensate for the unpreparedness. Ask why a mosque sits atop the holiest site for Jews, to this day.
Israel can take out Iran’s nuclear program but I don’t see a strike by fighter jets to do so.
The fighters would need to be left in Israel for protection as there will be a lot going on soon after Iran is struck.
It will take the use of drones, subs, cruise and Jericho missiles and the insertion of commando teams near a few of the most critical sites.
EMP may be used to shut Iran down moments before the strike starts. Neutron weapons could be used to keep armor away from the sites being attacked...rinse/repeat as needed (It is possible to quickly create a neutron shielded space for the ground team to use)
The sites are best destroyed by soldiers on the ground.
Don’t dismiss the use of neutron and EMP weapons as too over-the-top. What is unthinkable is that Israel would allow itself to be destroyed by an Iranian nuclear strike. Iran will strike Israel if it gets nuclear weapons...thus Israel will do WHATEVER is required to survive.
It’s better if the US takes out Iran as we can do it with conventional weapons. If someone does not flatten Iran we will someday be hit with a ship launched EMP weapon built there...IMO
“Ask why a mosque sits atop the holiest site for Jews, to this day.” Why don’t YOU learn some Jewish, Christian and Middle East HISTORY and then YOu will know the answer to this question. The Temple Mount had not been purified yet and therefore G*D Chosen people are not allowed to re-build the Temple there. It had not been purified Judacically since the “Abomination of Desolation” in 70 AD(The Romans):

Israel would be better served relying on superior military force rather than supernatural intervention...
YOU ARE AN IDIOT!
Yawn.
You don’t have a clue about modern warfare, and what it takes to wage and win it.
Thank you for your calm, reasoned, and above all polite contribution to this discussion!
And Judging by the “Great Britain and the Commonwealth’s” actions in 1914-1919 AND 1939-1945, YOU Aussie BOY have NO idea how to “win” wars either. WE (The United States) had to BAIL your A$$es out TWICE!
An EMP strike on Iran will probably take out the electronics in all the countries around the Gulf. Including the U.S. ships and shore facilities.
Read your Napoleon: "God is on the side of the big battalions." Israel may not have the forces necessary to take out Iran on her own. And counting on the U.S. to do the job for her is probably not very wise.
But real people live in the short run - and they'd like to raise their children and live their lives without crazy Muslims harassing them endlessly.
Our goal should be to make Muslims understand that if Israel magically disappeared tomorrow that their little Muslim countries could still be shith*les BECAUSE that's what their culture creates. It has NOTHING to do with Israel. Muslims in that area think Jews are keeping them down... it's nuts. Most Jews have jobs and families and they don't have time to each individually 'keep down' a few thousand Arabs... each.
Nope Arabs screw themselves over just fine without any outside help. That 'always at war' thing? Not too smart. The 'we only teach religion - not science etc' - that's - that's a dumb one... and the 'half our population' is useless - the female half... what a joke - doesn't work well in a modern society.
Arabs need to told the truth - they cause their own problems. Then and only then will they drop the fantasy that it's 'the Jews fault'.
If Israel knows it is facing extinction it will do it alone if need be. If Israel has to do it alone one can’t rule out nukes. If it comes to that then the US would have to join or lead the attack to avoid using the nukes.
Nah.
You joined in because you realised that if we lost, you would be toast, too.
That was what Germany with the resources of the rest of the world would have caused you to face.
The same reason you went into Vietnam, too.
Do not get me wrong, I fully support Israel, both the religious and the non religious. I fully believe the bible concerning Israel's future and while it is great in the long run, until the majority turn to Christ as their Messiah, the bible foretells great suffering.
Some of the end-times prophecy even declares that Israel will face total annihilation before they realize their rejection of the Messiah and turn to God for help.
The key thing to know and keep in mind that there are some who have already made that decision to recognize Christ as their Messiah and in the future many more will.
To loosely quote the bible ‘ God is not willing that any should perish but that all should be saved’.
We as individuals are totally incapable of determining exactly who is saved or not, We can however observe the likelihood of a single individual currently being saved by the nature of their works.
The bible states that ‘by the their works thou shall know them’. Even this however is not capable of ‘knowing’ who in the future is being saved even though their works today may not give any indication.
We must also realize that in the end times every nation that will be destroyed by God is currently today a Muslim nation. Israel will not be destroyed by God even though individual Israeli's will be judged exactly how individuals of all other nations will be judged. I believe that the following passages from the book of John are important to consider. John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. I believe that verse 18 may most correctly answer your question. It simply states that a judgement has ALREADY been made by God as to an individual's (and also a nation's) state in that judgement of righteous or not has already been made for everyone until God judges otherwise. An earlier old testament verse states that 'none are rightious, no NOT ONE'. God alone knows who in the future will be saved and it is totally up to HIM to make that determination. The bible in several places encourages us to ‘pray for the peace of Jerusalem’ and to support Israel declaring that those who bless Israel will be blessed by God and those who curse Israel will be cursed by God.
That was partly why I asked the other poster to define Israel. Modern Israel is a largely secular country.
