(CNSNews.com) - The number of American workers collecting federal disability insurance benefits hit yet another record high in October, according to the Social Security Administration.

This month 8,803,335 disabled workers are collecting benefits, up from the previous record of 8,786,049 set in September.

In February 2009, the first full month after President Barack Obama took office, there were 7,469,240 workers collecting federal disability insurance. Thus, so far in Obama’s term, the number of workers collecting disability has increased by 1,334,095. That works out to a net increase of about 29,646 per month (1,334,095 divided by 45 months), or an average increase of about 975 per day (1,334,095 divided by 1,369 days).

During George Bush’s eight years as president, the number of workers collecting federal disability insurance increased by 2,375,258, rising from 5,067,119 in February 2001 to 7,442,377 in January 2009. That equaled an average net increase of about 24,742 per month and 813 per day. In Bush’s second term alone, the number of workers on disability increased by 1,198,575, equaling an average monthly increase of about 24,970 and an average daily increase of about 820.

Obama collapsing the system. Hyphenated American men that have no American values. A bunch of wusses that can't stand on their own two feet to provide for their families, while taking from my family. I want to spit on them. (Actually much worse)

Obama collapsing the system.

Obama's also destroying the system for people who really are disabled... When the dependent ones of Detroit etc collapse Social Security Disability, they'll just move on to the next scam. People who really are disabled or the elderly who can't work - and don't have family members - will die... Thanks Obama...for nothing.

Disability is THE newest welfare crippler. I CANNOT turn on the tv or the radio without seeing another cser piece of filth explaining “I want to work, but I’m on disability.” Bums, beggars, and sub-human pieces of filth all. I worked in an orthopaedic surgeon’s office in Houston in the early 90s. Each and every single one of the csers on disability even then was a welfare begging, lying, piece of lazy filth. Why should anything have changed?

2+ million of the improvement in the unemployment numbers is really just a 2+ million increase in those on disability

what it really means is that 2+ million unemployed people said to themselves -

“shit, this unemployment thing is going to run out and Obama ain’t making no new jobs for me; I need something that lasts longer than unemployment benefits; oh, yea, I should get on disability, that can last forever!!!”

I swear you would think the whole damn country was disabled.

In the hood, they openly talk about getting a "crazy check". Crazy as in mentally ill, and check as from the government. I have a family member that has a real mental illness. This family member is medicated. If affects the my family everyday. But this family member goes to work everyday and works unpaid overtime and is productive. These people receiving Social Security disability checks are scamming the system. It should also be noted, they do not get counted in unemployment statistics.

Just for the record, I may be a right-wing-wacko, but I am not medicated.

“Gotta do something when the unemployment runs out.”

Get a job or lie down in the street and die!

Bbbbut...but....Chris Matthews says that if we draw attention to the moochers, we are not really outraged over people who are scam artists and takers, but the issue is that we are really racists for even complaining about it.

The other problem is people who really need the use of their “insurance” can’t get it.

my wife worked until the doctors told her it’d kill her and her employer was no longer willing to assume the risk of something happening to her at work.

She has fibro, neropathy, very hard to control type 1 (she has a pump that helps) and several learning disorders that makes it very hard for her to learn new trades even if someone was willing to risk her being injured in their work place.

Shes been waiting over a year for a hearing. The lawyer says be ready to wait up to TWO more years.

And even then, who knows if there will be money to pay the case if she wins, or if she wins at all.

Government programs never work. There should not be any government program that takes $ from one to give to another. Once you establish that there are certain people who are entitled to take money from taxpayers, it does not end.

Before we had massive government, we had family, neighbors, churches, and private charities, and they all did a fantastic job of helping the poor, the sick, and the disabled. If wealth creation were encouraged in this country and people were allowed to be rich, we would see a tremendous generosity shown towards those who need help.

Private charity is compassionate and it works. Government programs are neither.

I see no reason why worthwhile programs should be scrapped because gov. workers are too stupid to know the difference between a scammer and a person who carries massive war wounds. If dems had their way - and they do - the man dying of cancer - or the vet who depends on Social Security Disability and the perv who likes to be dressed like a baby in a diaper would be seen the same.

In fact they are... there are dems collecting Social Security Disability because they like being diapered and treated like a baby. Google it. The perv has a women who lives with him also on Social Security Disability so she can 'take care of him'. It's a sexual thing - without children of course... And you're paying for both of them to sit home on their butts... and play games. How does that make you feel?

Your solution is to dump the injured vet and the man dying of cancer in order to not support the kinks... My solution is to tell the kinks to get jobs and support their 'hobbies' with their own money.

The nature of government programs precludes them from being effective. There is no incentive to do the right thing. Every government program is rife with corruption and fraud and always will be.

Government owes veterans, although I think they, too, would fare better with private charity. As for everyone else, there is no right to some other person’s money. In the past, people helped each other voluntarily. It’s too bad that so many people trust government now more than they do their families, friends, neighbors, churches, and private philanthropy.

It really is possible to switch incentives. It can be done.

There is nothing in the Constitution that justifies taking what belongs to one person and give it to another, no matter how great the real or perceived need. Charity is voluntary; government transfer programs are theft.
