Late season Hurricane Sandy churning poleward off the Eastern U.S. coast.

Buoy Data: Current Observations
Oh, I am so relieved. Even if the storm is less than some think it will be, she is safe from the vermin who will take advantage of any situation.
She made the right decision.
I am hoping for the best for your family. God bless and keep you.
Thanks for the update. I’m glad she will be home with family. Many people in high rise apartments have no imagination about what life would be like without power. No water. No refrigerators. No elevators. No heat. No toilets. No light. Those are just the immediate problems. The secondary are when people lose it and the wolves come out.
I think you’re right.

That’s insane, with the storm still so far out.
Well, we’ll see what’s in store for Jersey and Philly soon enough.
Minimal damage from storm surge, a lot of rain, uprooted trees and light, mostly aesthetic exterior damage to structures, flooding of lowlying areas from NC to Mass, with very heavy snowfall amounts of up to two feet along the Appalachians, from northeastern Tennessee and northwestern North Carolina on up through the Virginias into Pennsylvania, with a possible lake effect kicking in over parts of the Ohio Valley, western PA and Upstate New York.
That’s my forecast for the next several days as a result of this storm.
What’s yours?
Eekyl, I don’t mind a little weather, but having several inches of rain with 75+ mph winds with shallow-rooted 100 ft trees surrounding the house is enough to set my teeth chattering a bit.
I worry about the roof and my wood-frame house, associated tornado threat. Being without power for a week or two or three (as happened with Izzy) is no picnic.
No Jamaican crews here to help an old man clean up.
There was a steady stream of electric utility trucks headed north past here into Virginia and beyond when I was out and about earlier today, if that helps to reassure you at all.
Two days ago there was a steady stream of electric trucks on I 30 heading out of Texas.
Thank you RegulatorCountry. That is good to hear.
That’s about 30 miles north from our place.
I hate to say it but I have some reservations about that image.
Here is the photographer’s Flickr page with a series of other photos apparently taken at that stretch of Jersey shore in a series along about the same time:

That’s a good two day drive from here, so I might’ve seen some of the same trucks. Dang, they’re calling them in from all over.
Over here EinNYC.
The most far-reaching impact will be power outages - upwards of ten million people if not more, along with all the associated economic losses from such. And there will be social unrest in some areas as well when the potable water and food runs out.
Regarding wind damage, I agree. Not significant structural wind damage except spotty tree and limb falls.
We’ll compare notes come Wednesday evening, then.
Yep, and I really hope you will be right.
When is his tone NOT cavalier? My daughter left Hoboken at 330 to come home before it gets messy and dangerous down there. Talking 8-11’ storm surge, and as it’s directly opposite Zone A in NY, will experience the same conditions. Good luck to your daughter getting home as well.
You are right.
Just saw on another Sandy thread that this is all hype, a big nothing and that we are all ridiculous for being so worried. Well, offices and schools in NYC are closed tomorrow...so tonight we drink and wait out the storm. :)
