As much as I’d like to believe it, this sounds like a huge CYA for all parties involved in the coverup.
1. Provides Hillary cover from charges of incompetence by spreading a rumor that she asked for more security.
2. Allows Hillary to look good with the socialist party by making her appear fiercely loyal to the point of falling on the sword.
3. Bill gets cover by simply being able to deny the story.
4. Obama gets cover by also being able to deny the story and to continue to allow Hillary to take the heat.

Well I think she’ll end up spilling the beans.
The truth will come out in short order whether she is the one who tells or not. So she’s not saving herself by doing this - at least not long term [like 2016.] If she doesn’t tell, the info will still come out and could damage her badly irrespective of who wins on 11/6.
