New Congressman Likely For Mass.: Tisei Expected To Beat Tierney

Few candidates enjoy the kind of “perfect storm” that enabled Sen. Scott Brown to win his U.S. Senate seat in a special election — powerful issues, a weak opponent and an anti-politician climate combining to create momentum and opportunity.

But Richard Tisei, a moderate Republican, is riding a similar wave in challenging Democratic Rep. John Tierney in the 6th Congressional District.

Last week, The Boston Globe’s Eric Moskowitz gave this update on the contest:

National Journal ranked it the 11th most likely to turn over among the 435 seats in the House. Last weekend, the Rothenberg Political Report, another nationally regarded nonpartisan observer, tipped the race to “Lean Republican” from “Toss-up.”

A poll last month by the University of New Hampshire gave Tisei a lead of 37 percent to 31 percent and since that time he’s continued to build momentum from advertising and news coverage. When an incumbent is under 50, he’s in trouble because undecided voters break for the challenger.

Brown won the 6th district with nearly 60 percent of the vote. Tisei might carry the district by a similar margin.

Tierney has been considered vulnerable for two years because of his family’s scandal. But due credit should be given to Tisei, a thoughtful and sincere man, and to his smart campaign. Even when members of Congress are plagued by scandal, it’s not easy to beat them. They are “entrenched” because for years they’ve used tax money and special interest campaign money to publicize that they are unusually dedicated public servants who use their clout selflessly.

Boston Herald columnist Margery Eagan wrote Thursday about the challenger:

He was the lieutenant-governor nominee two years ago with Charlie Baker. No surprise the moderate ticket went down to defeat. And I didn’t shed any tears for them either. I left the governors race blank on my ballot.

Scott Brown isn't likely to win, unfortunately.

I don't expect Tisei to do much better. Even if he does, so what. I don't think he's quite as liberal as people think, but he's still a rino and a butt-bandit.

I think Brown’s got at least an even chance to win.

The GOP really couldn’t dream up a more perfect candidate to steal and hold a seat in MA.

I know its hard to believe. But Brown, liberal as he is, is down in the polls.

I listen to liberals talking about Warren -- far from holding their nose to vote for her, many of them are actually very enthusiastic. Last time around, being a special election, the race between Brown and Coakley came down to personality. Now the liberals are considering the chance of a national GOP coupe and are circling the wagons.

It makes me sick. Warren has no experience in government, she gets paid nearly a million bucks a year to teach one class at "Hahvard," and has been caught in everything from plagiarism to checking off minority for professional gain. And still, they flock to her.

It really speaks to me about how far beyond redemption this state is. I've got my exit strategy in place, God willing its only a matter of time before I shake the dust of this Gomorrah off my boots once and for.

So help me, I won't even come back to visit.

I already exited almost a decade ago now. Still have to return to visit family from time to time, however.

MSM and many moonbats consider him a far right tea party Rethuglican even if he’s a RINO...detourned sign I saw today:I’m with (Crime and) Tierney. Tierney is arrogant lefty...the Tierney Crime Family thanks disillusioned Republicans for their support. Don’t like him or Brown? Then support Tierney and Warren..

Same here,I left 9 months ago for sunny NC. There’s still some hope here in NC. It’s looking like it will go Romney. But Mass is lost. I miss Quinzy!

No. Furthermore I take offense at your flippant assumption.

Look, the truth of the matter is that this state SUCKS. Really, unless you live here you can't realize how bad it is.

Look at Tisei. He would be ostracized in republican circles in any other part of the country. In Massachusetts, we're glad to get him. Obama leads Romney by more here than in any other state, last time I checked. Even more than in California. Brown is running an ad campaign trying to out-pro-abortion Warren.

Where do you live? If you're so hot to defend Massachusetts I'll trade states with you. I don't say this lightly as a new joiner, but screw you pal.

You miss Quincy?

One thing that irks me greatly about the Boston area, particularly the backbay and downtown, is the...I suppose it would be called "cosmopolitan" feel. It honestly doesn't feel like an American city with all the foreigners underfoot and striding mindlessly into traffic. There are more fag rainbow flags than American flags!
