Candy Crowley, moderator of the second presidential debate may have a trick up her sleeve if things get tense between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney - she practices transcendental meditation twice a day.
The CNN anchor, who will be in charge of the 'town hall' style debate at Hofstra university on Long Island, New York, took up meditation after the 2008 election and managed to achieve what one website called a 'natural state of restful alertness'. She also credits the practice with her weight loss.
And in a campaign in which red meat rhetoric designed to attract party 'base' voters is ever present, she is a committed vegetarian.

In May, Crowley gave the commencement address for students at the Maharishi University of Management. The university was set up in 1974 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who created transcendental meditation, in Fairfield, Iowa.
Its mission is to 'provide a consciousness-based education holistic, relevant education for a successful life not just a career to ensure our happiness and to make real contributions in the world' and 'meditation and spiritual growth, self-exploration, higher consciousness, spirituality, and inner peace through the transcendental meditation technique'.
The meditation involves the repeated repetition of a sound, called a mantra, and is practiced for 1520 minutes twice per day, while sitting with closed eyes.
Crowley told the gathered students: 'To get to where you want to go, you first have to stand and be who you are,' she said.

"I dont care who ya are ... thats funny!"
More like a surgeon with a shop-vac.
Show me a person who lets his mind go blank for 20 minutes twice a day and I’ll show you a guy who isn’t going to get near my shop, machinery, heavy equipment, or even sharp tools. Maybe we’d give him a rubber hammer and let him thump himself to sleep.
And, during the instruction, there was no mention of any kind of worship. Fortunately or unfortunately, I got out of the habit of it, although it's not hard to do.
There was a book released around that time by a Harvard professor named (I think) Herbert Benson that was called The Relaxation Response which, in effect, provided scientific support for the benefits of that particular method of meditation. As I recall, he described how to do it, trying to de-mystify it and make it available without enriching "The Maharishi" who really was a bit of a charlatan.
where I come from we just call it a nap.
On the other hand, there are studies for how meditating, and prayer, affect the brain in positive ways.
I'm in on meditation and prayer. I have heard of saints in meditation to deepen their prayer.
Of course, I can't name them (maybe St. Terese; maybe Julian of Norwich), but I guess this would be as good a time to read "Lives of the Saints".
HA, HA...at least the color is close!
Hmmmmm.....hmmmmmm.....HMMMMMMM!
Better for me not to meditate on that!
God bless and heal him.
A person as large as she is does not speak well of self-control and self-esteem. Chubby-chaser alert!!!! I bet she has a large tub of M&Ms next to her tonight. From the pics of her she still has to go to a freight company bay to get weighed. I bet her TM mantra is “mmmm...mmmmn...good”.
Good one!
Yes! She needs to checker her cap, black and yellow!
TM hasn’t helped her lose any weight.
Pray. Pray very hard.
I would urge anyone, in the strongest of possible terms, to avoid Transcendental Meditation (TM) like the plague.
I am completely serious.
It is a very dangerous practice, and not at all Biblical. I can post some guidance here, but you have Google at your fingertips. I suggest you do some searches of "Bible" and "Transcendental Meditation" or a combination of related terms.
If you are an honest searcher, what you find will be very instructional.
Quite simply, TM is a pagan, Hindu based mechanism that is completely out of phase with the fundamental foundation of Jesus Christ being the way, the truth, and the life. It is very dangerous. Anyone that dabbles in it is playing with the occult. The occult is a tool used by demons and Satan to ensnare the unsuspecting into a literal living hell.
What does the Bible teach about meditation?
As mentioned by a previous poster, TM is a completely different animal than "meditating" on scripture and holy things, as mentioned in the Psalms or Romans. Placing yourself into a trance-like state in an attempt to achieve something is definitely not the way the Bible reveals a Christian should behave. The Bible warns strongly against it. TM teaches that salvation is found within. It teaches inner divinity. It is completely un-Biblical.
Here is but one site that speaks towards this:
Last year, I read a book entitled "Hostage to the Devil" by Malachi Martin.
There were (I believe) five cases of possession and exorcism. Not all occult practices lead to complete possession (the worst affliction), however, all occult practices lead to destruction of our relationship with God.
In one of the cases, a university professor named "Carl" practiced a technique very, very similar to TM. He was deceived by a very powerful demon, and become completely possessed. It is a horrifying account if you read the entire case.
So, how does this relate to the debate tonight, and why is it relevant?
From my vantage point, as a Christian, we clearly have a woman (Crowley) who was raised in a nation where she had the freedom to worship God or to completely reject God. She chose the later.
Do not think that Satan is not real, and that he does not have an incredible interest in this election. We are on the battle front of good vs. evil - the future of our nation, or it's destruction. The fate of our relationship with Israel is at stake.
I do not think it is an accident that Crowley is moderating, and I do not think for a second that she will not attempt to influence this debate in a way that will attempt to protect the evil that is Barack Hussein Obama.
With all due respect, I don’t believe in any of that hocus pocus.
If there is any evil influence governing the lives of Barack Obama and Candy Crowley, it is their Lord and Master, Karl Marx, a real man(though long dead), not the devil or demons taking hold of their minds through meditation.
>>Lets go easy on Candy. Shes closer to a real journalist than most over there, and also, CNN seems to be seriously eyeing the demographic (right-of-center folks) that Fox seems to be abandoning.<<
I’ve been wondering if Crowley would make a different play here. While I give this only about a 1% chance of happening, if that, she could make herself instantly famous if she chose hard-hitting audience questions for Obama and then went after him with her follow-ups to ensure that he really answered them, or to make it very clear that he wasn’t about to answer them.
Obama’s re-election is in trouble, obviously. The way it stands now he’s in danger of going into a downward spiral where virtually everyone gives up on him except his hardcore base. Tough questioning by Crowley could put an end to his chances of recovering, but doing so would lend instant credibility to CNN and to her as well. lf Obama plunged in the polls immediately following the debate, her questioning would get the credit (or blame).
In other words, she has a chance to be the first American reporter (Univision already tried) to really put our President on the spot and get him to address the many issues he’s managed to duck the past 3 and a half years. If she does this successfully, and his poll numbers plunge, and he eventually loses, she’ll be viewed by many as the equivalent of Woodward and Bernstein when they took down Nixon. Granted, the Left will despise her, but as you said CNN appears to be making a recent play for the mainstream and a move like this by Crowley would make that quite obvious.
Just wondering if any of this has occurred to Crowley or to the powers that be at CNN.
The Bible is clear that any worship that is not towards the true God is towards devils

So your thesis that TM is Satanic rests upon the notion that meditation is the same as worship. Have you made that argument yet? I must have missed it.
May I ask you, why did you ask for clarification of what the Bible or Christian doctrine has to say on this matter, but then utterly reject the evidence with hand waving once it was given?
You and I may be on the same side politically, but from a spiritual perspective you and I differ on the trivial notions such as heaven, hell, death, redemption, sin, and salvation.
In that respect, you and Crowley are on the same side.
There is a battle going on. It is real.
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
Ephesians 6:10-12
