The State Department has said that it never believed the September 11th attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was the result of a protest over an anti-Islam movie - directly contracting the rest of the Obama administration.
By trying to distance her department from the inept and deceptive handling of the Benghazi attack, which left U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American officials dead, Hillary Clinton could help herself politically for a 2016 presidential run.
A dramatic new account by the State Department reveals that Stevens was locked inside a 'safe room' choking to death from diesel-heavy smoke as the building around him burned to the ground.
Alongside him was a security guard, tasked with the impossible choice between staying in the deadly room - or facing the rocket-propelled grenades and machine-guns outside.

No-one saw the ambassador alive again - another agent tried desperately to enter the safe-room, but could not find him anywhere.
The State Department's insistence it never bought the story - expressed by the White House and Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations - that a crude anti-Islam film made in California triggered the attack gives ammunition against Obama both to the Romney campaign and congressional Republicans.
State Department sources have said that Clinton has never forgotten that Rice, who served in her husband Bill's administration, was an early supporter of Obama. Rice has ambitions to take over from Clinton if Obama is re-elected but the Benghazi debacle could scupper her chances.
In a briefing on Tuesday, State Department officials said 'others' in the executive branch concluded initially that the attack was part of a protest against the film, which ridiculed the Prophet Muhammad. That was never the State Department's conclusion, reporters were told.

The link in centurion316’s post #16 is to the State Dept.’s text of the MSM discussion held earlier this week. It’s an interesting read, and has been considered by some as career SD members refuting the claim of SD political members (including Hillary) that the video was the cause of the attack.
Keep in mind, this thread links to a story in the UK. To them (as to many) State Dept. means Hillary. Not necessarily. Others on this thread have pointed out that Hillary herself spoke of the video within days of 9/11. The problem Hillary has, as well as the administration itself, is the intelligence and state community will not stand idly by while being blamed for security not being implemented, or for not advising the administration on all the facts. This, coupled with the fact any attempt by the administration to blame State puts the blame on her as well, puts Hillary in a no-win situation, IMO.
Everyone was informed of the attack in Benghazi in real time. The Pres., Sec. State, the Pentagon, the CIA ... It's automatic, required by law and all logged.

Hillary is on record Friday supporting Obamas ME policy with regard to the Arab Spring. Far from distancing herself from Obama, they’re closing ranks! I think it’s the missiles. If that issue is explored in more detail, this story goes orders of magnitude bigger.

FWIW those missiles were in Gaddafi's stockpile already. It is true that the 0bama-NATO sacking of Libya created the chaos that created the opportunity for the jihadis to take it.

Exactly! You hit the nail on the head. Our men were sent there not to provide security, but to try to retrieve the missiles, among other weapons, that Hillary gave to the rebels. The deal went bad and the rebels attacked. Hillary is deep in doo-doo over this and this is why they tried to cover-up everything. She and many others should be jailed over this.
Thank you! You see that this fiction began with Hillary Clinton and was picked up by Obama and only last passed off to Susan Rice. Obama went back to bed after hearing what a nothing burger this attack was suppose to be. Where did that come from?
This may indicate that the fiction was put in place before he was even informed. Maybe not, but it’s possible, so, I look at Valerie Jarrett and wonder what she knew, when did she know it and what did she do with the information?

They were condemning the “video.” My recollection is that they spent $70,000 on it.
The ad was made about a week after the murders in Benghazi. They were still spouting the lie about the “video.”
Someone needs to remind her that she made this ad. Apparently, she “forgot.”
Actually Hillbilly tweeted about it on Sept. 11th using the Cairo embassy Twitter account. You might recall Romney condemning it and the press going crazy on him.
