If he would now just come out in favor of protecting marriage, I suppose I could vote for him and pretend that if and when he fails to keep the promises that I believed him.

No. But I cannot vote for Romney either with his history on some basic items. If he needs my vote in Tennessee, he has lost anyway.

No, but that's what we're going to get no matter which candidate wins.

From a short-term political-strategy perspective, it might be best to have it come from a Democrat. That'd make it easier for a Republican to win in 2016.

From a longer-term perspective, better to have it come from a Republican. That'd make it easier for the next Republican nominee to be a conservative.
