They use to give wounded soldiers and pregnant women one Guinness per day, it’s high in iron (for real). They would crack a raw egg in the Guinness for pregnant women. No myth.

Beer is also rich with electrolytes which is why a cool one is so welcome on a very hot day. Home brew is even richer in assorted nutrients. Just don’t overdo it. A beer would also relax an anxious new mother and increase her fluid consumption, essential for milk production. Been there, done that (the milk production, not the beer ;-) )

My late husband had a 6’7” friend nicknamed Oop as in Ally Oop the comic character. For some reason he had access to a brewery when a teen. He would scoop up beer vat residue (full of brewer’s yeast) by the handful and eat it. Don’t know if he got so big because of it, or if he craved it because he was growing so big.

Their slogan was, “Guinness is good for you”. Imagine advertising beer like that today? They’d be sued out of business;)
