Speaking at a rally held at a family farm about 20 miles outside Des Moines, Romney was telling the crowd a random story about how he had once mistakenly crashed a neighbor's Christmas party near his house in La Jolla, Calif., thinking it was the neighborhood's annual holiday party. He spoke about how kind people had been to him, though he and his wife, Ann, had intruded.
"I got to meet some really interesting people. One of them was a guy actually from my home state of Massachusettsa relatively young guy compared to me,"
The man was a former Navy SEAL , Romney explained without giving Doherty's name. The two talked about interests they shared: They both loved to ski and had explored some of the same slopes.
"We had a lot of things in common," Romney said. "He told me that he keeps going back to the Middle East. He cared very deeply about the people there. He served in the military there, went back from time to time to offer security services and so forth to people there."
"You can imagine how I felt when I found out that he was one of the two former Navy SEALS killed in Benghazi on Sept. 11th," Romney continued. "And it touched me obviously that I recognized that this young man that I thought was so impressive has lost his life in the service of his fellow men and women."
"When he and his colleagues there heard that the consulate was under attack ... they went there. They didn't hunker down where they were in safety. They rushed there to go help," Romney said. "This is the American way: We go where there's trouble. We go where we're needed. And right now we're needed. Right now the American people need us."

My son and I were listening to Romney’s story on talk radio this morning. We were doubled OVER chuckling at his admittance of going to the wrong house....and then teared up at the end when he spoke of the Navy Seal. Such a good story.
The audio is better!! Heard on Glenn Beck today.
When Romney was running for nominee of our party, I, along with many other FReepers, railed against him.
Over time, my opinion has changed, I didn’t know his full character. I felt he was a bad choice and our party was going to get another McCain but as more of what drives this man becomes public, the more I believe we’ve got the right man at the right time.
The pendulum has swung back in the right direction.
Why no mention of that we had too few Marines there for security and that they were hamstrung with no ammunition. Basically sitting ducks for the mooselimbs to attack without fear of retaliation? Why couldn’t Romney bring out that most troubling FACT that occured on 9/11 and paint the picture Obama and his cronies want the destruction of the US?
Heard that story on Beck this morning. Powerful and will resonate deeply with real Americans.
I was in the same boat. I did not vote for Romney in the Florida Primary. But what I have seen from the Convention to the Debate last week to now. He has my full support. I was the 1st on my street to put any political signage. ROMNEY/RYAN is out there right now and on my back bumper.
Touching story, I saw the video online. It was riveting, funny about the party crashing, then heart breaking that it was one of the men killed in Bengazi.
This kinda touches close, one of the four killed I knew kinda. Sean Smith (Vile Rat) played Eve Online. It is a space, SciFi based MMO (Massive Multi-player Online) game. He was one of the leaders of the alliance (Goonswarm) that I played with. In the game over time they made masterful moves we later found out that Sean or VILE RAT was his character's name, was key in making those moves. He was able to use the diplomatic training in the game with huge success.
I never chatted personally with VR, but I do remember the last time I was playing the game and Goonswarm and the CFC was Rompin' & Stompin' VR was there leading the effort.
The day he died he was online and in a chat with the overall leader of the Alliance. That chat log has been posted. He mentioned earlier in the day how it was strange the local cops hired for security were taking pictures of the compound.
(12:54:09 PM) vile_rat: assuming we don't die tonight. We saw one of our 'police' that guard the compound taking pictures
Its a small world, so I understand Romney's perspective on this. I too hope Romney really goes after Obama on what happened in Bengazi and also for the cover-up. Just today on the eve of a House investigation the State Dept finally admits this was a planned attack and it had nothing to do with a video and that there were no "spontaneous" demonstrations before the attack.
Here’s an ABC story about the widow - a Romney supporter.
I went to the ABC site to rant about the unabashed bias regarding the VP debate and saw this. I guess they are trying to toss one Romney’s was to make it look fair.
Because that would be using this brave soldier's death for political gain. Romney gave a very moving tribute and DIDN'T try to score political points off of it. It left me wondering why Obama hadn't given a similar speech. It's like Romney is already president, doing Obama's job for him.
Thanks for that link.
