How nice...and he stayed until the very last kid. Zero would be itchin’ to leave before then, because this event was clearly about the kids.
How did those kids know a motorcade was to pass by? Or where they outside at playtime and the motorcade happened by. In either case it was nice they got to meet someone running for president. It will something they’ll remember for years to come.
He should have a big supply of Romney/Ryan tee shirts aboard, and stop at lots of schools.
Let the freedom of speech progressive teachers deal with it.
Those kids are to young to know what is going on, so if they knew who Mitt Romney was, it is because their parents talk about him at home. That is the good news here.
I am guessing that his speaking engagement was nearby. The school administrators probably guessed the time that the motorcade would pass by and allowed the children to watch it. I do miss Virginia schools.

This is like things were once and what seems like a long time ago.
JMO. It was most likely a planned pass by. He was at VMI earlier and that’s some 25 miles away from the elementary school Fairfield and off the Interstate on a side road which was a US hwy. I think the turn around was spontaneous and it was great from the children to have the opp.
I’m sure the campaign trail can be a drag at times, but this looks like a fun little interlude
I don’t think the kids would have been as excited if the parents were speaking negatively of Romney at home.

I am pretty much cynical-ed out after 4 years of the fraud in the WH.
Sometimes, I believe that Romney can be a good deal like Reagan. Reagan wasn’t “REAGAN” until he got that job.
I loved seeing the pics of the kids. Romney seems like a genuine, decent guy.
Our country is officially finished if he doesn’t win. Frightening and sad.
I know they will remember it forever! in the Fall of 1952 I was able to see the train that had Eisenhower on it in downtown Royal Oak, MI.He was at the back of the train and waving to us. To this day I remember seeing him! We had a mock election at my school and I voted for him when almost everyone else voted for his opponent.
That is an experience a kid never forgets!
The kids will realize on November 7th. that they met the future President today.
Peter Robinson recounts this about Ronald Reagan in his book How Ronald Reagan Changed My Life:
The incident I always considered the best illustration of Reagan’s regard for ordinary individuals took place in a North Carolina parking lot. “It was during the 1976 primary fight,” says Dana Rohrabacher, who then worked on the Reagan campaign as an assistant press secretary. “We were getting ready for a rally in this gigantic parking lot at a shopping mall. I was in the staging area behind the podium, and a lady called me over to the side and said, ‘I’ve got a group of blind kids here. Since they can’t see him, I was wondering if you could have Governor Reagan come over and tell them hello.’”
Dana passed the request on to Mike Deaver, and Reagan, who was standing nearby, overheard. “He said he’d do it, but he didn’t want any photographers,” Dana explains. “Can you imagine that? He was in the middle of a presidential campaign, and the press would have gone wild for a photo of him with a group of blind kids. But Reagan wanted this to be between him and the kids.”
“Deaver came up with a plan. When the speech ended, Deaver told Dana, he’d begin walking Reagan back to the campaign bus. Concluding that the candidate was about to leave for the next event, all the reporters and photographers would hurry back to their own buses. And then, when the press had cleared out, Deaver would double back with Reagan, returning the candidate to the area behind the podium, where Reagan would meet the blind children.
“It worked,” Dana says. “The press guys all went back to their buses, and I brought the lady with the blind kids back behind the podium. There were six or seven kids, real sweet little kids about eight or nine or ten years old. Since there was a lot of background noise, Reagan bent down, close to the kids, to talk to them. But somehow I could see him thinking that that wasn’t enough. So after the kids had asked him a couple of questions, he said, ‘Well, now I have a question for you. Would you like to touch my face so you can get a better understanding of how I look?’ The kids all smiled and said yes, so Reagan just leaned over into them, and one by one these little kids began moving their fingers over his face to see what he looked like.
“The only picture of that scene is the picture in my mind,” Dana says. “But I can still see those kids, touching Ronald Reagan’s face and smiling these really big smiles.”
I like this. Very, very much.
As am I but learning the motorcade made a U-turn tells me it was not planned.
Thanks for sharing that touching story. I am fighting back tears. Reminds me of GWB visiting soldiers without the press scrutinizing his every move.
