St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner recently discussed the "Wiki Weapon" project, organized by University of Texas law student Cody Wilson, to develop a design for a firearm that can be printed on a 3-D printer. This design would be published for free on the Internet, and made available to anyone with Internet access. The project has hit a speed bump for the moment, because the manufacturer of the high-end 3-D printer revoked the lease of the printer when it got wind of the nature of the project. Wilson has vowed to not let this stop him, and is exploring his options.
Wilson's group, "Defense Distributed," poses the key question on its website:
"This project could very well change the way we think about gun control and consumption. How do governments behave if they must one day operate on the assumption that any and every citizen has near instant access to a firearm through the Internet? Lets find out."

As readers might imagine, this does not sit well with the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV). As this country's shrillest advocates of a "government monopoly on force," the idea of forcing change in governments' behavior through the open knowledge that every citizen can effectively arm himself/herself against oppression is blasphemy.

Some seem to forget that back when the gun was invented there where no outlets to plug the CNC machine in to ;)
First read this in the 1950s; it is oddly apropos to this article.
Book review of The Weapon Shops of Isher: One of his classics that I had not previously read is The Weapon Shops of Isher. I finally got around to reading it now because it deals with the issue of the right to bear arms, which is so topical right now, particularly where I live, only a few miles from Columbine High School. In this novel, the eponymous weapon shops all bear the slogan, "The right to buy weapons is the right to be free."
In the distant future, the world has been unified under the empire of Isher, ruled by the young but ruthless Empress Innelda Isher. The only check on the power of the empress is the existence of the impervious weapon shops, which provide defensive weapons to ordinary citizens. [snip]

Cool!
Yeah! Baby!
Whatever happened with her?
Is she still around?
That’s just for a block which becomes a lower.
Where’s the rest of the parts? /s
You know, on a .556 I think you could actually shoot AK47 accurate in that format...
This is awesome!
She has to be getting long in the tooth but I bet she still looks awesome.
This whole “issue” reminds me of the debate over “plastic guns” when Glock started importing into the US............
Hysteria by the media with an agenda attached.
A gun is not much good with out ammo.
A gun is not much good with out ammo.
She’s probably Cougar Hot....
This just means that the gun grabbers will switch from gun control to ammunition control (which they have been pursuing anyway).

Hopefully by then we will be using “rail-gun” technology suitably sized for a handgun. Then the ammo will no longer need chemical powder and Brass. Then they go nuts trying to control aluminum and plastic.
Nah....what they will do is control ammo. Making the gun is just mechanics. Making the ammo requires some pretty sophisticated chemistry, both for the propellant(powder) and for the primers. And some very strong safety procedures to keep from blowing oneself up. Which is why B.L.O.A.T. (buy lots of ammo today) is the most important thing to do.
Glam pic
I was in Jonathan Brownings workshop in Old Nauvoo (father of John Browning) in August, the rifling of barrels was accomplished quite easily in the 1840’s with a wooden screw tool pulling a carbide cutting piece repeatedly through the barrel... The barrels themselves were formed from FLAT steel hammered into half round forms.
I was unaware of that. Thanks.
Concur on cartridge production being the weak link.
Besides BLOAT, I subscribe to the multile caliber theory.
Well, the "shoulder up" shot doesn't show her two best features.... :^).
I see she's lost the chubby cheeks.
