Actually, Romney’s cute story about his sons was a subtle reference to a far more sinister Obama/Dem technique, as described by a previous master of sinister techniques:
But the most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly and with unflagging attention. It must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over. Here, as so often in this world, persistence is the first and most important requirement for success.
“War Propaganda”, volume 1, chapter 6 of Mein Kampf (1925), by Adolf Hitler
This is probably the origin of the meme “if you repeat a lie often enough...”
I noticed and commented to my wife that one of the genius accomplishments of Romney’s performance was figuring out how to call Obama a liar in multiple subtle ways, so the audience would not find it offensive, but still get the message. He did this with the sons story, by saying “you’re not entitled to your own facts”, by saying “he never heard of the tax credit for shipping jobs overseas”, etc. Brilliant.
“Repeat a lie often enough” was a phrase originally coined by Vladimir Lenin.
