The presidents team officially downplayed the debate, faulted Romneys facts, and pledged to make adjustments. But some aides and alumni admitted Mitt changed the narrative last night.
People had been set in their ways, with many thinking, Obama is going to win, said William Daley, now back in Chicago after serving in the West Wing. If this is a restart and a second look for those who have been soft, then that puts pressure on [Vice President Joe] Biden in the next big show, meaning the vice-presidential debate with Rep. Paul Ryan on Oct. 11.
What seems to be a victory in optics for Romney may create an opportunity for those people to take a second look. Looking at the polling going into the debate, he needed that, said Daley, who oversaw Vice President Al Gores 2000 presidential campaign against George W. Bush.
Opinion is that he had an extremely good night, and that is a big advantage, said Daley. Thats big for a guy on the ropes, now perhaps back with solid legs in the ring. Whether that now turns into a fundamental beginning of a reshape of the campaign is unknown.
At least two current Obama campaign aides were more blunt than Daley and used the term shell-shocked over the Obama performance. There were various analyses of what went wrong, including finger-pointing at debate preparations. Those included claims that Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, who played the role of Romney in mock debates, probably wasnt tough and aggressive enough. (He does, after all, want to be Secretary of State, claimed one aide.)

This will be comical.
When this debate is done, people will say, huh?
I read somewhere foreign policy then social policy, but I’m not sure.
Truly humorous with a pegged BS meter.
The next one is a townhall format. The sort where the donks pre-place their shills asking softball questions, fainting and offering unsolicited testimonials to His Won-ness.
I think we’re going to see two things —
1) Obama will be hyper-aggressive in the next debate. I’m of the opinion that he planned to be passive in that debate, but didn’t expect to get hammered as badly as he did. He’ll now go all in. He CANNOT lose a second debate. He’s finished if he does. He’ll use “47%” and tax returns etc. Romney needs to prepare for that.
2) There’s a video. I think they have their dirties of dirt still waiting, literally, the scum they scraped from Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago office toilet. I just hope Romney has something good to counter it with.
So KNOWING that if it takes place he is going to lose BIG, what do they plan on doing about it?
A NO SHOW.
They have to know the Golfer in Chief cannot say "Good morning" without a teleprompter.
He was completely adrift last night. And those split screens showed him as looking very, very angry.
Yahoo News was leading with that story for most of the day.
I thought: is that the best you can do? That really reeks of desperation.
The next presidential debated will cover BOTH domestic AND foreign policy...problem is, it’s a Town Ha;; format..questions will be asked by as-yet undecided voters, to be chosen by the Gallup organization. Question will be asked by the moderator...think it’s Martha Raddatz..
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
All I want is for Obama to lose the election.
I will be so happy for me and American and freedom if this POS communist Obama loses.
Please God it’s all I ask for.
I hate this POS Obama more than anything
Palin - Biden debate didn’t change anything. Did Palin even win that one?
Probably someone or something will get attacked on the night of the debate, forcing its cancellation due to national security reasons.
As Ben Maller says, the best stories are always in the losing locker rooms.
Palin absolutely crushed Bite-Me!
For God’s sake, the man had to have a teleprompter to speak to a classroom of 6th graders!! There’s a pic circulating around today of Barry with one of those portable beer hats, but instead of 2 brewskis, he had 2 mini-TOTUSes!!
IMO in the Town Hall Format the people asking the questions will be hand picked by the Obama team, the pubs should never have agreed to that. Undecided my foot. obama will know the questions. IMHO of course.
Do you think Palin would have spanked Obama as good as Romney did?
And look how THAT turned out...Lehrer did a GREAT job..he let them engage each other, didn't get in the way..( amazingly, even MSNBC's lunatic Lawrence O'Brien praise Lehrer..while most libs are blaming Lehrer for Obama's miserable performance..they have to blame somebody..
As good as Mit was yesterday..Lehrer made it possible to a large extent..imagine if David Gregory was the moderator..
