There is an old Jewish joke about a boy who murders his parents, then throws himself on the mercy of the court as an orphan.

Actually, not just a joke, there was a court case in the last few years involving two brothers who killed their parents and actually got leniency from the court because they were now orphans.

I assume you’re thinking of the Menedez brothers back in the early 90s. That was the first thing I thought of. They didn’t really get leniency though.
