ABC: Obama Falsely Claims He Has a Plan to Cut $4 Trillion from the Deficit

“I’ve put forward a specific $4 trillion deficit-reduction plan,”

President Obama said during his debate with Mitt Romney on Wednesday night. “It’s on a website. You can look at all the numbers, what cuts we make and what revenue we raise.”

ABC’s Jon Karl correctly calls Obama’s claim “mostly fiction.”

Does President Obama have a plan to cut the deficit by $4 trillion?

No. The “$4 trillion plan” he is referring to includes about $1 trillion Congress has already agreed to and $1 trillion in savings from ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which are already ending.

This would be Mostly Fiction.

The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler has also noted Obama’s claim is “simply not accurate,” and pointed out that “virtually no serious budget analyst agreed” with the administration’s accounting.

Please comment or clear this up... When Lehrer asked them
to comment on the “role and size of government”, I think
Romney answered that he would reduce the size of the federal
government mostly through attrition.

If that is his plan then I am disappointed. He should be
planning the wholesale elimination of the Departments of
Energy, Education, HHS and the vast reduction of many others.

That's the whole point. While it's undeniable that Romney kicked Baraq squarely in the goolies last night and his supporters have every right to be happy about that, it should be remembered that this man is nobody's conservative.

If the goal is to replace Baraq, dance in the streets. If the goal is to replace Baraq with a conservative ... well, that ain't gonna happen.

So you think he should shoot himself in the foot with the voters who work for government? Come on! Get serious! If he does what he says, and eliminates whole programs and agencies, there will be layoffs, but you don’t announce it beforehand.

They have illegal aliens (ESL) writing headlines now?
The claim is absolutely true.

The facts are speculative and unlikely.

Romney isn’t as conservative as I’d like, however, I think that after 4 years of ultra liberal policies, perhaps a moderate can reach a lot of the discouraged zero supporters. Romney has other strengths.
