The monkey was one of those small 'squaller' monkies. About 12" or so tall. They were skinned out and put on a couple of crossed sticks and then grilled.
Its an image that sort of stays with ya.

I don't think I'd have monkeyed with that BBQ although the howlers can make such a racket you feel like killing them.
I do remember flying from Flores near Tikal over the Peten jungle en route to Belize City. The pilot was very familiar with Mayan ruins in the region and he pointed out many unexcavated and largely unexplored sites below. Maybe one of them was the Queen's burial site. There's a huge amount yet to be learned about the Mayans.
