when somebody can attack somebody like this so casually, they have lost their humanity and shouldn’t be treated as if they have any.

Unfortunately, jail is just a place to socialize for these young thugs, like a library would be for most people.

One can make an interesting case for abandoning the DNA-based genetic definition of what or who is human, and instead using behavioral criteria and natural law. Makes a whole lot of sense if you think about it.
