Typical bad reporting in the full article. No Q or A about whether or not the father told the intruder to stop or anything. The intruder wasn't even in the house. One unanswered Q will be why the kid didn't say something like, "Hey, Dad! Wait! It's me, your son!".

Did the dad just go off shooting with no words? Was the kid actually trying to break in when confronted?

Such bad reporting by the typical "news" media. Almost as bad as when they quickly report something "bad" about Romney only to later find it was all a joke (they can't wait to say something bad about him), but gaffes by Obama need to wait to be "verified" (translation: approved by the Obama thugs and only after they have come up with a response to CYA).

OK, the report linked above gives more info. Looked like the kid threatened his own father. Pretty sad.
