“Aiken is a nice guy who is right on all the issues - but he isnt a politican.”
Interesting comment.
I thought one of the fundamental reasons we are where we are today — in a country with a failing government — is exactly because of “politicians” who are loyal to their professional culture first, and disregarding of their constituents.
.... And that one of the reasons that conservatives tout “term limits” so much is to reduce the influence of the “professional politicians”.
Considering the direction the country has been going in the last 50 years, one recalls the famous remark by William F. Buckley [paraphrasing] that he would prefer to be governed by the first 500 people from the Boston telephone directory rather than the members of Congress.
So... along comes a guy like Mr. Akin, who (in your very words above) is “a nice guy who is right on all the issues” but not a “politician”.
What’s wrong with that? So, he isn’t as “polished” as the big shots (does that include you?) would proffer before us.
So what?
I’m not William F. Buckley, but I’d prefer to be governed by Todd Akin and 534 other guys like him, who misspeak once in a while but are “right on the issues” — rather than a hall full of politicians who would just as soon sell this country down the drain, so long as they could keep gettin’ theirs...
So... along comes a guy like Mr. Akin
And with a name like Akin, he just might be one of the first 500 people in the phonebook. Buckley would be proud.
