The NAACP has filed a bombshell complaint with the U.S. Department of Education, alleging discriminatory admission practices at the citys elite high schools.
In a blistering document delivered to the feds Thursday morning, the NAACP accused the city of barring black and Latino students from eight of its best public schools, including Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, where only 1% of students are black. Black and Latino students dont see opportunity at places like Stuyvesant because of the admissions process, said NAACP attorney Rachel Kleinman. Its not fair and its bad policy.
The citys Specialized High Schools Admissions Test is the only method that is used to judge students for admission to the eight elite high schools.
The NAACP believes the grueling exam is unfair to black and Latino students because they are denied admission at rates far higher than other racial groups. Nearly 31% of white students and 35% of Asian students who take the test are offered seats at the top schools, compared with just 5% of black students and 6.7% of Latinos.
The NAACP doesnt specify how the test discriminates against blacks and Latinos, but Kleinman said those students may lack tutoring and other resources. Education officials hit back against the NAACPs complaint, arguing the test is color-blind.

Gotcha. It’s easy to slip into using language appropriated by the left. Catch myself doing it every now and again.
Stay safe and hold hard.
I don’t doubt your word, but it is hard to believe that some of these teachers actually passed a test.
I don’t expect that to happen until the government is no longer around to make people listen to the whines of the Jesse Jacksons of the world.
“The NAACP doesnt specify how the test discriminates against blacks and Latinos”
Of course they don’t. The burden is always on the accused to prove they aren’t racist, not on the accuser to prove they are.
Heaven help us if this kind of thinking ever makes its way into the courts.
I have an idea for the NAACP -- why don't they just ask the 1% who did get accepted into these schools what they did to get in? Then take this information, analyze it, pass it on to future applicants.
Or is the NAACP afraid of what they may hear as the reasons why those in the 1% got accepted (hard work and study, intact families, just plain smarts, you know...)
Here’s a piece on Africa....some parts of it at least....where the men are drinking millet beer all day so the women have to be the beasts of burden, do the manual labor, work and farming/gardening

Oh my goodness. Is it racism, or is it just, that as a group, they aren't smart enough? Or is it racism to even posit such a question?
This isn't the 1950s, minorities have been handed preferential concessions since 1964. If blacks still aren't capable of competing with other groups on an equal basis, maybe it's time to admit some uncomfortable facts.
There was one black male that came in and he brought his father. This person was 22 years old. I inquired as to why he insisted that his father sit in on the interview, his answer was that he could not read or write and he needed his father to fill out the application for him. Not only that, he could not speak 2 sentences in a row without dropping back in Ebonics.
I informed him that he did not qualify for the position in any fashion and that the interview was over. He threatened to sue me and the company for discrimination and false adverting in the job posting.
It seems that he took it that the line in the advertisement that stated "Will provide on the job training" to be that we would teach him to read and write. He was promptly shown the door all the while screaming Racism.
I put the blame on the liberal public school officials that have deemed it inappropriate to give anyone a failing grade because they might feel bad. The students who get that treatment are always shocked to find out that businesses do not care about their feelings, only if they can do the job.
How is US DoEd -- Arne Duncan's shop -- a venue for this?
They shopping for an Obama kangaroo-judge, some GS-14 supergrade, to hear their beeves?
State court, then federal district court, would seem to be the proper forums for a complaint like this.
Just wait a bit more.
Yep, any minute now, Thomas Friedman will denouncing the NAACP...
Just wait...
