"Colorado man's challenge to IRS says wages don't count"
The government calls those who argue the income tax has no legal foundation tax protesters and labels their arguments frivolous. And usually judges toss their arguments out of court, assess them court costs on top of taxes, interest and penalties, and sometimes even threaten them if they file further cases.
But now the U.S. Supreme Court the nine judges who sit on the bench in Washington by virtue of their selection by presidents and confirmation by the U.S. Senate has docketed exactly that type of case.
The results? Who knows, considering the radical arguments offered by the pro se plaintiff, Jeffrey Thomas Maehr, a Colorado chiropractor who has been involved in a number of business ventures, including PureHealthSystems.com.
Among Maehrs contentions is that while the government has the legal authority to tax, the Internal Revenue Service has used unlawful, unconstitutional, unfair and biased manipulations to assess income taxes on that which is not income essentially salaries and wages.
Basing his argument on 10 years worth of research into tax law, he concludes that salaries and wages are the result of the mutual agreement among participants to exchange labor for money and thats not income.
Income, he said, is the increased value of an asset, such as interest on money in a bank account, which can be subjected ........

“the tax brackets apply to everyone”
How can you say that with a straight face when you know different brackets apply to different people?
“even if not everyone is successful enough to have income in all of those brackets”
But if you are more successful than someone else in a different bracket how do all brackets apply to everyone? That’s the opposite.
“That some income is taxed at higher rates doesn’t matter”
Are you saying it is unequal but doesn’t matter, or just plain doesn’t matter?
“since the same rates apply to anyone with income in those brackets”
Why are we talking about equality within brackets again? If you know those are equal, surely you know different brackets are unequal. I know you do.
“That’s all equal protection requires”
Not according to Brown v Board of Education. Blacks were equal in the black bracket and whites in the white bracket. But somehow it wasn’t enough.
I just realized something. You look at it as everyone’s together at the starting line at the beginning of the year. Then we go make money and end up in whatever bracket we deserve. And that’s “equality of opportunity,” because it was up to us and we knew the consequences going in?
That is, well, weird, but in any case inaccurate. The way it works is you are classified according to how much you’ve made at the end of the period. Your income decides your status. It is you that is taxed, not the act of making money. That’s why it is a direct tax and not an excise, or whatever.
By the way, I absolutely guarantee you SCOTUS won’t deny like you that progressive rates are unequal. They simply will apply rational basis instead of strict scrutiny and say the state having a legitimate interest in raising money is enough to get around equal protection.
Whoops, I meant Carolene Products.
How do you get that $1,000 is equal to $10,000? Did they receive 10 times the representation of government services than you?
The Communists have you brainwashed into thinking percentages are equal representations.
Why do you think people who work longer hours and earn more money should be penalized by having to pay a bigger percentage of their pay check to the government.
People should not be penalized for working harder or for having better paying jobs due to using more effort.

I'm probably listed as a 'tax protester' because several years ago, I discovered the government number on the 1040 form was listed as 'foreign earned income'. When I wrote the IRS to question which tax form was required for someone living in one of the several States, the reply was that the 1040 "would suffice".
LOL! The government has required forms for everything down to paper clips and toilet paper, but the one that supplies a large chunk of gubermint money doesn't even exist!
Every honest American gets financially raped every year by our own government, yet they expect the judicial branch of the rapist to say it's wrong?
Good luck with that!
“Why do you think people who work longer hours and earn more money should be penalized by having to pay a bigger percentage of their pay check to the government.”
Communism: From each according to their ability, to each according to their need.
You just supported Communism.
According to you, a person should be charged at the Wal-Mart checkout according to their income level: $1 for an item for the guy making $50k, but $10 for the guy making $500k.

I quoted your comment. Nothing more needs to be said about your comment.
You think percentage of paycheck is somehow not Communism, that some should pay more for their same level of government representation than others. You think the more someone makes the more money they should pay even when they are not receiving more government representation. For those of you in Rio Linda, ‘representation’ means ‘services’.
Those that make more do not get more roads to drive on, more rivers to float on, more skies to fly in, more national defense to protect their properties, more lives to have protected, more schools to attend, more votes in Congress, yet, you believe they should somehow pay more money for it. You equate a percentage as equal when it is not. Paying a percentage of income seems fair to you to pay for government services but somehow not paying percentage at retail is different somehow.
As I said, it is you that is brainwashed by the Communists into thinking, “From each according to their ability, to each according to their need.” That is pure Communism.
It was a typical retort of one that knows he has lost the debate. None of your comments has any relation to economics; you were simply attempting to refute an obvious truism with childish rhetoric.
“No it is not equal, If i pay a 10% tax rate and i make $10,000 i pay $1000 if some one else makes $100,000 they pay $10,000 that is equal.”
First off, try writing like an adult and not a first grader. Are you really too lazy to find the Shift key? That shows disrespect of yourself and the people reading your scribble.
Second off, this is your statement that claims paying differing dollar amounts is equal. That is Communism. So, according to you, when you go to Wal-Mart you won’t mind prices being labeled as percentages of income just like government services: “Toothpaste: 0.001% of income”. For a poorer person, $0.50, for you, $1.29, for the ‘rich’ guy, $145, because percentages of income is “equal”, according to you.
>> From each according to their ability, to each according to their need. That is pure Communism. <<
.
Can’t be said loud enough or often enough!
When the Communists talked of implementing a “Progressive Tax” they also meant using “Percentage of Income” as that would mean the richer pay more and the poorer pay less. Combine that with the poor being able to vote themselves money from the treasury the Communists knew they could control all wealth and get their theft of money in place.
We are one sick society! We’ve bought into “government by parasite” hook, line & sinker. Very sad indeed Mama.

Besides, road taxes are collected when you buy gas, don,t you know that or are you even old enough to drive? the ones who drive the most pays the the most gas tax which equals road tax.
School tax is collected with home owners property tax, what that means is that many people who do not even have kids are paying for the education of socialist snots like you.
At any rate another comment was that the people making more money should pay a higher percent than those making less money, i do not agree with that.
The term “wages” means remuneration for the purposes of paying into the social security program.
It would be a Subtitle C tax and there can not be a notice of deficiency filed for failing to pay a Subtitle C tax. The IRS does the bait and switch all the time in court. I think the real form is 88XX something, it’s a real income tax subtitle A tax, and then in court they switch the claim to 1040 and subtitle C.
