“...People who have obviously spent no time in China would do well to remember that the Chinese will hate the Japanese long after the communist dynasty is gone....”
Sam, I agree with you and I think it goes all the way back to the “Rape of Nanking” in the late 1930s. Maybe even further than that. They’ve never forgotten it.
Two days ago I saw a sign (in English) in the crowd of Chinese protesters that said, "Never Forget Nanking."
Unless someone more knowledgeable instructs me otherwise, I am not prepared to believe that a mob would assault a U.S. diplomat anywhere in China, unless that action were endorsed and approved by the Chinese government.
If I were to ever truly “fear” any particular nation/race to rise, it’d be the Chinese.
The ones that have been & are outside China are “cashed up”, communist or not, would mostly still support China. (period/full stop).
They mostly like the freedoms, opportunity to make money elsewhere. Make no mistakes, they are hard working, persistent, great/tough traders/business people, expedient in their politics, diplomatic (when required), and don’t give a damn if they had to play dumb, deaf & blind. Life is cheap to them, even for their own race. They are in a word “persistent” as a race, individually.
The US should not allow itself to become further enslaved to China for $$$$$$$$$$$$$. The old saying is that those who pay you OWN you.
The Chinese people are not and never have been puppets any more than an elephant or a bronco is a directly controlled puppet of its current rider.
That's a very important point that seems to be completely lost on the majority of FR posters. They see China as some giant, monolithic factory where all of the little Borgs do everything they are told. In reality, as anyone who has been there realizes, it is a miracle the CCP maintains any control over China at all.
LOL.Fat chance, pal.
No problemo!
(Shouting)"Hey Ben! We got another order to print another trillion $'s! Better call in the third shift! We're gonna be working overtime tonight!"
I hope to God Panetta is not reassuring the Chinese of any such thing.

will watch 2morrow. Late here now. Thanks.
Eliminate caffeine from your diet, Sam. Give it a try.
"Riding the Tiger" indeed, eh!
There are protests all the time in China, Janice Joplin style. "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."
They don't make the news over here, but they certainly happen.
There's also something liberating about anonymity there.
We are tracked and controlled in the US to a far wider and more accurate extent than most Chinese are, certainly in the lower classes. We have less freedom, because we actually exercise it less, because we have more to lose.
The fact that we are all posting in a "Free Republic" with pseudonyms....?
“Pay us back our money...”
The world is salivating at the prospect of our economic collapse.
You know Rush has brought up the collapse several times on his show recently. He was being serious about it, not jocular. His indications were 18 months away, I thought it was much closer than that.
The things we don't know, we don't know. What we do know is... the government lies. We know the unemployment figures are rigged...but...what if they've lied about the debt? How would we know the real amount anyway?
Bernake printing like we're the Wiemar Republic...that's how we know. It is over...all that is left is to wake up the American people to their national poverty.
This is why we need a war. It's how the depression got ended...World War.
Meanwhile, Obama parties it up with a $800/per bottle, 350 bottle champagne tower.

Thanks odds. Much appreciation.
Well, you only had three choices.
Defend a weak assertion, concede the limitations of your argument, or bow out with graceless snark.
I shot 9 holes with Locke at Interbay, 7 or 8 years ago. It was pure chance I was a single and got thrown in with his threesome.
I, by no means, rub shoulders with the political class however, I’ve met a lot of politicians through my place of employment: Pelosi, Gorton, McDermmitt, Gregoire etc...
I totally disagree with his politics but, Locke was the first professional liberal I’ve met who didn’t come off like a complete prick. He was pretty nice and didn’t mention politics once.
He’s the kind of guy you disagree with, but you’d be fine golfing with on a regular basis.
War does not end depressions, the death of FDR and his economic policies with him ended the depression
Upset about the crappy movies Jackie Chan stars in for Hollywood compared to the Hong Kong action film classics.
