It’s real, it’s just misunderstood. Ethanol is bad for small engines, and the four gallon minimum is to ensure that residual ethanol in the line doesn’t kill your lawnmower, motorcycle, scooter, weed eater ect.
Mix pumps mix gasoline from multiple sources. Typically, when you see three grades of fuel on a pump, the pump is drawing from two tanks and mixing the fuel to create a third grade that is not individually stored.
The problem is the gas still left in the line. If you fill your weed eater up with gas using the low ethanol grade that ‘s safe for it, but the guy before you filled up his Camry with the high ethanol gas, you might pump so little that you really got the high ethanol that was still in the hose.
