The way to handle these things is clear rules and a kind reminder.
Never get antagonistic but never back down either.
If one guy don’t get it, he soon will, when there are 10 guys with fire arms that do get it.
Don’t be stupid.
The best safety is the one between your ears.

I was at the outdoor range this afternoon, and there were a few new shooters there. At one point, when the RSO called a cease-fire, a couple of the newbies started down range to change targets before the RSO had declared the range safe and given the go-ahead to go down range.
He was on the PA in a nano-second, stopping them dead in their tracks and getting them back behind the firing line. He told them in no uncertain terms, "The only time you guys will see me jump your **** is when you do something that could get people shot".
I was glad our RSO's take safety so seriously, and I think the new shooters learned a good lesson.

I'm always polite and kind, and review the rules before I take anyone on to the range.
